The last quote was over the line. He's an 18yr old kid and Mora essentially tells him to 'go back where he came from'... Publicly. That's overly harsh imho.

Ya know...I kind of wish Coach Saban used this type of candor

Link here

Used the light blue font, because I don't know if I'm joking or not
You can tell all your readers! This is why there’s no starter named!"
"You can’t hit an open receiver down field with no defense."
"The ‘Anointed One.’"
"Go back to Bosco and beat some more [bad] teams."

I don't think I'd qualify that as candor. That's taunting and mean spirited. Don't get me wrong, some people will hear that and it will galvanize them to do better and try harder just to prove those statements wrong....it just looks awful coming from a head coach towards a freshmen QB in public.

There's nothing good that comes out publicly downing a young kid that way, I've always liked Mora, but, disagree with him doing this cause a HC should always do that in private if he wants the kid to stay & get better..No kid would wanna play for him after that..That's JMO..

"Praise your friend openly, admonish them in secret."
I know nothing about the relationship between this coach and this particular player, but those (other than the first one) seem over the line. Maybe Mora has a relationship with the QB that he know these will make this kid play better, smarter and harder. If the QB was my son, though, I'd be less than chuffed.

I understand WHAT he waa trying to do. The kid Rosen was so highly touted coming in, he's trying to light a fire under him to compete at a higher level.

However, he did the poorest job of conveying the message and went WAY over the line with his comments.

Composing excuse letters as to why they lost to Iowa State in 2011.

That's a full-time job, y'know.

They were depressed over the deaths of the basketball coaches, the whole team. (Ignore the fact that depression didn't prevent them from taking a 24-7 lead).

I know, I'm bitter, but I'm still mad about that sudden excuse. As JessN basically said (using different words), if you wanna compare tragedies, I see your two b-ball coaches not related to the program that none of your players know dying tragically and raise you the April 27 tornadoes across the South.

As far as Mora, I think he's a genetic jerk anyway. I can just see him channeling his dad when asked if they can make the "playoffs."

Trent Dilfer was not a big fan of Rosen in the Elite 11. He said he was talented but said he thought Rosen felt he knew everything and did not take coaching well. I have a feeling Mora is getting this from him too and went off on him but that is still no excuse to publically state it.

Maybe Mora just overestimated how much "chest" the kid had.
That's quite possible.

That honestly sounds like the case, and thus why I said what I did in my earlier post.

The thing that's kinda fuzzy to me is he said it in practice, where a kid may normally get lambasted...but he did it during the media session which is beyond idiotic

We all know that coaches use different means to motivate players. Sometimes a player has to be brought down a notch or two, but to do it publicly is wrong.

At least he didn't use any profanity in berating this kid.

I bet the player would rather have had a private cussing out instead of what he got, but that's just my guess.

I like the way you involved another thread in the conversation. That is a nice touch. [emoji2]
