Reasons Georgia Southern shouldn't have won (other than the huge obvious one):
3 turnovers
2 missed PATs
0 completions
19 of 65 scholarship players not present
This was the 2007 signing class. Saban got Maze, Chapman and Jackson. Shula didn't even want Maze. Maze was headed to Michigan or Tennessee until Saban entered the picture. Jackson was committed to Vanderbilt and Chapman was headed to Auburn and Saban flipped them both. Also we were in a very I will call it "messed up" situation under Shula. There were things going on in our football program that I'm not sure I can even talk about here on Tide Fans. Saban inherited a terrible situation and had to clean house. Also we were just coming off probabtion. JMO but I think Muschamp clearly walked into a better situation than CNS.You can't just go by recruiting rankings. Meyer created a pretty dysfunctional atmosphere. Shula was fairly permissive, but Meyer seemed to allow just about anything.
Looking at Bama's 2006 class it was great. It included Rolando, Vlachos, Marquis Maze, Josh Chapman, Kareem Jackson and fan favorite Nick Gentry.
Youre right. I searched for the 2006 class and then didn't check. Duh.This was the 2007 signing class. Saban got Maze, Chapman and Jackson. Shula didn't even want Maze. I never said I was 'just going by recruiting rankings', but there's zero question that Muschamp inherited far more talent than CNS. In CNS's first season, Alabama had ZERO players drafted into the NFL. In Muschamp's first season, he had EIGHT.You can't just go by recruiting rankings. Meyer created a pretty dysfunctional atmosphere. Shula was fairly permissive, but Meyer seemed to allow just about anything.
You're mistaken about Muschamp's first year, he had 2 guys drafted in 2012 - a 4th and 5th rounder. In CNS's first season, Alabama had ZERO players drafted into the NFL. In Muschamp's first season, he had EIGHT.
So if a member of the 2003-2006 teams commits a murder (which could still happen) its somehow Shula's fault?Youre right. I searched for the 2006 class and then didn't check. Duh.
i still think Saban had a better situation. Shula never recruited and coddled any future serial murderers.
Fine, I'm not SelmaBornTideFan, but it still shows NFL talent being present and developed that didn't exist in CNS's first year. You're mistaken about Muschamp's first year, he had 2 guys drafted in 2012 - a 4th and 5th rounder.
I agree. This is what I've been saying about Muschamp since Florida hired him. I think by the time he's done there the Gators will be wishing for the days of Ron Zook again. Muschamp is horrible as a HC.Muschamp sucks as a HC. Maybe someday he'll be good, but he lost to GaSouthern in year three. That's proof positive.
Saying Saban isn't as good as Shula would be madness, saying Florida in 2011 wasn't as good as Bama circa 2007 is just a difference of opinion. While I agree the extent to which Meyer poisoned the Florida program has never been fully explored, particularly by the media, claiming Muschamp inherited a worse situation than Shula borders on madness.
Well heck, I'm gonna have to be obstinate now. I really don't feel all that strongly but it seems some folks refuse to even entertain the idea. Even when it comes to being terrible Bama fans have to be #1!JIB, brother, when you hit bedrock, drill elsewhere...
No, we've entertained the idea and explained why you're wrong. You just keep saying "nuh-uh" whilst claiming to be objective...Well heck, I'm gonna have to be obstinate now. I really don't feel all that strongly but it seems some folks refuse to even entertain the idea. Even when it comes to being terrible Bama fans have to be #1!
There's a way it could work in our situation, but it would be unique. You have to remember that CNS has stated that he supports a HCIW if it's handled properly...This, folks, is why Alabama needs to hire someone with experience rather than Kirby Smart when the time comes to replace CNS. I have never been a fan of guys with zero head coaching experience stepping into high-profile BCS jobs. When it works out, it's the exception rather than the rule.
