Georgia QB Carson Beck expected to enter transfer portal

Georgia quarterback Carson Beck is expected to enter the transfer portal, multiple sources tell On3. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

That’s legitimately surprising news. I thought he‘d go pro, or at least come back. Maybe he thinks there is better development else?

Beck was considered a first rounder prior to the season and his injury in the SECCG. Most feel his draft stock dropped significantly with a less than stellar season. Plus a UCL injury in your throwing elbow can take a while to rehab so Beck probably dropped to mid rounds in the draft.
Probably felt he had a better shot to improve draft status by coming back. And, at least it appears, UGA is moving on without him.

Well if his receivers there can catch the ball that will help him. Georgia led the country in dropped passes I believe.

Possibly. But IMO, given a UCL injury to his throwing arm, that is like paying a premium for a car that’s been wrecked.

Miami seems the most likely landing spot for Beck. He's from Jacksonville and his girlfriend is on the Miami women's basketball team.

I think he and Ewers are on about the same level, and I personally wouldn't want either one of them. Both are interception machines, and I find it difficult to believe that we don't have a QB on the roster that can throw 28 TDs and 12 INTs, at worst. That stat line would not be good enough to win a national title, so I'd rather roll with the unknown quantities, if that's the best we could get from Beck/Ewers. It's not that they're bad QBs, but I think they're just a step below elite. I think Cam Ward may have been the only elite QB in college football this year, so there's not really anyone in the portal I'd want at that position.

I think Beck is better personally. Ewers I wouldn't really want. Beck is a bit better deep than Ewers. Ewers just has better WRs and offensive coach IMO.

ND - 18TDs 6Ints
Penn State - 24TDs 7INTs
Texas - Ewers who you already mentioned 29TDs 11INTs
Ohio State - 32Tds and 9INTs

One of those QBs is going to win a title and I think any of those are within Becks range of possibilities. I think we could win one with a QB like Beck. I believe in DeBoer and his ability to get a little bit more out of Beck than UGA could.

Obviously DeBoer has a better idea of what we have in Mack and Ty than I do. So if he decides they are good enough I'm fine with it. But I'm not sold on Ty and don't know enough about Mack to be confident in either. I also just don't know if Keelon will be ready since he needs to gain weight and very few freshmen QBs can start right away. So I think Beck would make some sense and I do think we could go far with him

Not quite… he needs to be pushing 40, have a history of significant injury and coming off Achilles tendon repair….

Then he would be perfect…..
