UMass Student's Comments about Tillman

This person said "in my neighborhood in Puerto Rico he would not be considered a patriot"...what the hell does that mean? Puerto Ricans are hardly patriotic...most of them resent the fact we hold it as a possession. This person is getting a quality education, which they can't get on their crappy little island...and we are the only thing preventing them from becoming just another little smelly banana republic like Haiti. Send him back to the banana grove, and take back the first pair of shoes we gave him before he leaves.

To be technical, PR is not a possession, it is a commonwealth, with shared citizenship with the US. Either country can revoke the arrangment at will...

We could all meet in Gulf Shores at the Pink Pony Pub and push him out to sea and back to puerto rico. I think this guy won't have to be deported, I think after this, he'll leave on his own!

Inadell and Squall, unfortunately this is a liberal-centered issue, whether that is good or bad is open for debate.
The bill of rights contained what we would describe today as liberal and conservative aspects, (i.e. free speech, and right to bear arms, amoung others).
Academia today is a very liberal environment with many, if not the majority of, administrators and professors openly hostile to the military and the US government as great evils responsible for most problems in the world. While I expect you don't share those beliefs, many do.
Even with that caveat regarding academia (which may too broad of a generality) I can't imagine that letter beung published at Arizona State, University of Arizona, SMU, TCU, University of Oklahoma or many other such schools (note that I avoided naming any SEC schools). It is easy to believe that a Massachusets school would publish such a letter. To give the UMASS paper credit, they did run a Tillman tribute alongside the Gonzalez letter.
The young man was incredibly naive to write such a diatribe and is now suffering the consequences for taking such an incredibly ignorant position. The school and the paper are pedaling as fast and furious as they can to try to distance themselves from the incredibly stupid decision the paper's leaders made in publishing the letter.

However even with all of that, it is hard to imagine that letter being published in any other environment then a liberal paper at a liberal school in a liberal state.

While this conclusion may be painful, I believe it to be accurate. Just so you know, in the past I have contributed to the campaigns of individuals from both parties, and currently hold some beliefs supported on the left side of the aisle and some on the right.
Peace among all Bama fans.

I am very happy that the kid's article was published. It reminds us that these people exist in America, and they do not respond to intellectual reasoning. They're wrapped up in their little ideal platonic worlds and they would rather see the United States be scared into submission by religious maniacs than admit that it's right to defend ourselves. I'm sure Pat Tillman's family will consider the source and not give it a second thought. But the rest of us should give it a second thought, and be diligent in our disgust.

My statement is made from the simple fact that the conservatives on this board far outweigh the liberals so they use their power in numbers at times, to decry the liberals on any issues or statements that they don't like.I for one am very tired of hearing cheapshots being taken at peoples party lines. This is a sports board not a political board, but that apparently doesn't stop people from making comments like well they must be libs etc. bottom line lets keep politics out of the post on this board please.

What a puto, given the name was Renee, I assume the person who wrote that article was female. All she would have been good for in Afghanistan, prior to our invasion, would have been just that!

Renee is a male, saw his picture on another board. He does appear a little effeminate, though. That may explain why he has no.....

A large portion of the blame for this dweeb's ignorance of what freedom is and how it is secured lies at the pedestal of our educational system. A system that increasingly has spurned the heroics and genius of our Forefathers and the Pioneers on whose backs the success of nation depended. Political correctness has so altered our history books now used in our elementary schools through our universities that most adults who ever cared enough to actually study history would scarcely recognize some of the more politically charged stories that now pass as historical accounts. But yes this fool has every right to spout his ignorance but we also have the right to put this punk in his rightful place and hope that he decides to get onto a plane back to his "native Pueto Rico" to never return.

First of all this is still America and the guy has a right to say anything he wants. Yes, he is a freaking idiot, but as of today there is NO LAW against idiocy! There should be...but there isn't as of today!

As Streyeder's signature says: "Stupidity should be painful". I wonder if the little twerp is in pain!

I agree with this. At my school there are quite a few people who think like the UMass guy. Certainly nothing like a majority, but enough to make me concerned about the direction things are going. I blame it on the whole PC indoctrination you get from the academic establishment and the dominant media. Don't mistake this as liberal or conservative. It's a distinct ideology that (IMHO) seems to have at its core a resentment of Western culture and the success and dominance it's spawned. If you look closely (or rather listen to these people closely) there's even a bit of racism boiling underneath. Lots of scorn directed at any group they judge to be too successful in relation to others.

I have no connection with the military and am not a right-winger, in fact just the opposite. But we are now seeing a global clash of civilizations and there's no doubt in my mind that the liberties we enjoy in the West are under attack and that the ideals and culture that made us what we are are worth defending. Because of that, Pat Tillman's story is inspirational to me. I don't think he was programmed with blind unthinking patriotism, but made a deliberate personal sacrifice because he truly understood the importance of the current worldwide struggle.

You know what ticks me off BamaBake? People on here constantly taking shots at peoples party lines everytime someone say something that they don't agree with. I like Squall am of the opinion that this post and this thread have nothing to do with being liberal or conservative, but some people try to make it that way. However you have the right to voice your thoughts just like this kid did, even if your wrong and their wrong, its still your right as an American.</font>

I agree with you 100%, and it's too bad that there are sooo many close minded coots that make every issue into some sort of political statement... tiring and inane...
