Umpire Tony Maners

Tony Maners is up to his usual antics in the national championship game. He made a batter who was hit by a pitch come back to the plate, claiming he didn't make an effort to get out of the way when the batter clearly did. Then, he ejects Rice Coach Wayne Graham during what looked to not be a heated discussion in between innings. Graham had turned around and headed back to the dugout and didn't say a word when Maners booted him. It was Graham's first ejection of the year and only the third one of his career. Then, a few pitches later, the Rice batter fouls it back, and Maners claimed he didn't get a piece of it. The catcher picked up the ball and tagged him, and he was called out on the dropped third strike.

During the biggest games of the year, the rest of the nation is finding out what we've known forever: SEC umpires are an embarrasement(sp?) to college baseball.

I agree with you completely. I'm just glad that during tomorrow's championship decider, he won't be behind the plate.

He must know someone in the SEC and NCAA offices to keep getting picked for such prime games all year.

i actually thin tony maners is one of the better umpires in the country. His strike zone is a little big as shown, but he is consist with it, which is all you can ask of a ump.

he was a big league umpire at one time as well

consistently big is all it is, i watch both the game yesterday and the sec championship game that he called...his zone to be look like it was consistently big but consistent

wade townshed didnt pitch well, it wasnt tony maners fault at all, i thought he was giving the pitchers a good bit off the plate for strikes

he did ump in the big leagues for a reason didnt he?

I WATCHED PART OF THE GAME YESTERDAY AND THE PLAY WHERE THE BATTER SAID HE TIPPED THE BALL, IT LOOKED ON THE REPLAY LIKE HE MADE THE RIGHT CALL.

I NOTICED A PATTERN EVERYTIME BUSTAREED SAYS SOMETHING, JOJO AND 38 DISAGREES AND VICE VERSA.

He made the right call when Kolkhorst claimed to have tipped the ball. He gave Hudgins and O'Hagan plenty off the plate for strikes, but Townsend wasn't getting the same calls.

I can't believe Maners has made it as far as he has. To be umping in the biggest game all year is horrible.
He also isn't umping in the majors for a reason isn't he?

Even though he had a good game, based on what I've seen of him, I find it hard to believe that Al Davis lands behind the plate for the championship decider. He's been a thorn in our side for years.
