To the no-calls add a facemask and horse collar overlooked, and probably more. What about the Barn player standing on the goal line keeping the ball out of the endzone on the punt. Did they get that one right? I thought I heard Mus or somebody say that it didn't matter where the player was.

Huh?

Id like to see that one again also, I thought his foot was on the goal line when he touched it, I know the ball didn't cross the plane but I didn't know you could stand in the endzone and bat the ball out, I think the ball can even cross the plane as long as it doesn't touch the ground and the PLAYER is not touching the ground in the endzone. But spiking the damn ball has always been a no no in college football that's why you NEVER see it, but I guess its alright for lunch room lady to do it, hell I remember Derrick Lassic getting a 15 yarder for just spinning the ball on the 1yrd line against Miami in 92, spiking has always been forbiden.

He will certainly be in contention they have everyone back and they will be good, Ive never cared for him but he is a hard nose blue collar running back. I respect the way he runs, (Yeldon could take some notes from the way Mason and Henry stick it in there) Mason is a good fit for THAT offense,.
Too soon?

The NFL rule says it doesn't matter where the player is. College if the player is in, and touches the ball, the ball is in.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I swear I heard an announcer in one of the games last week say in college the player can down a kick if he is in the endzone but the ball isn't; they pointed out the difference in that rule from the NFL.

That is my understanding.

I know in the NFL that if the ball breaks the plane its a touchback. In college I thought it could break the plane but the player couldn't be standing in the endzone. For instance the ball bounces across the goal line and the pursuing player dives at the ball without touching the goal line and tosses or bats the ball back into the field of play. If you can stand in the endzone why worry about standing in the endzone and just toss it out when it bounces to you. It doesn't make since, maybe your body can be in the endzone as long as the ball never crosses, heck Im not sure. One thing is for sure they didn't call it or give it a second thought.

I think a lot of these plays/rules are being interpreted differently on the field. I know I saw a play on a punt last week where the gunner dove for a ball bouncing towards the ez...grabbed it about the 1 yard line...and slid into the ez. The ref marked it at the 1. I thought if his momentum took him sliding into the ez, it was a touch back. Then again, i thought grasping of the face mask was a penalty, but seeing a lot of those not being called either.

Personal thought here - but I think in championship games the "leash" should be a bit longer. Within reason, obviously, but you hate to see the outcome of the game affected by a referee making a borderline call for something that does not actually give anyone an advantage. If you're in the championship you're supposed to be good, don't let them score and you won't see them celebrate, IMO.

I thought the Unsportsmanlike that was called on FSU was ridiculous and if they had called it for Mason's it would have been just as ridiculous.

I agree but my problem is it was a HUGE call because FSU was going to go for 2 and they throw a flag, that backed them up. Its a moot point now because of the long FSU pass reception, but the no call on the Mason spike, the barn would have been kicking off from the 20, either way FSU got hosed on both call/nocall and could have cost them. My problem is if you are going to let them play then let both teams play. I thought in both instances the refs blew it they could have made up for the crap ... unsportsmanlike with another one on lunch room lady.

Completely agree here - two wrongs don't make a right, but I'd rather an official be consistently terrible than inconsistent.

Yeah Mason is a great back. My thought was more of, wait until that clock reaches 0:00 before that kinda stuff if you even do it at all. If anybody should know the value of time still left on the clock it is Auburn. If Mason stays though, he will be an early Heisman front runner for sure. As far as the spike, I told my wife at the time, normally that is a penalty but I don't think the refs wanted to change the game with a call like that so late when it wasn't taunting at least. Any other game I'm sure they call it.

The bigger missed call was the horse collar on the FSU receiver Greene on the long pass play during the last drive. It looked like Auburn got his face mask too. Greene had outrun the Auburn defender and was going to score. The only way he could have stopped him was to horse collar but the refs missed it. If FSU comes up short on the last drive, that missed call would have been huge as that should have been half the distance to the goal.
