With down-time and hundreds of football games to watch (Thanks Direct-TV) I thought about a couple of coaches I've witnessed and believe that one day they will be coaching in a BCS conference.

1. Steve Kragthorpe (Tulsa) He's got a college football linage, with pro experience. Done great things in a short time.

2. J.D. Bookhart (Akron) Pro experience (as a non-paid volunteer coach with the Broncos) then on to Pitt with Walt Harris. Not too spectacular this year but done really good things at a lackluster program in a Mid-major conference.
Sorry no link to his bio.

Thoughts?

Much like playing "fantasy pro-football" I want to play "fantasy AD" for a day. Besdies, looks like several programs will be looking this year for a HC. Like Michigan State, Virginia, UNC, NC State (possibly), aTm and down the road Ole Miss and MS State and UK (possibly).

You all think I would dare insinuate "The Great Bama Tradition" would stoop so low to hire a coach from a mid-major? (Being cynical there).
Not FLAMING, just thought some people on this board might appreciate good football (outside of Alabama).

I enjoy it. No bashing needed, either...good post. I enjoy expanding my football knowledge. :)

I too enjoy this type thread much more than coach and player bashing and why KD is dancing. Based on what has happened so far this year I think there will be more HC openings this year than last year. Possible HC openings after this season: Michigan State, UNC, Kentucky, TAMU, UCLA, WSU, Miami (?), Georgia Tech, Oregon State, Penn State(?), Stanford, Arizona State.

I don't follow your thinking on some of these.

who would MSU hire? they have a pretty good coach I think in Williams.

Bunting I agree could be shown the door.

Rich Brooks, yeah I guess so, but I dont think the Bluegrass Cats really care all that much about the football team, so he could get more time than any of us would give him.

Karl Dorrell, I dont think so, he has had a couple of decent years and they love him out there.

Coker, yeah, I think he's out.

Gailey? I thought they liked him. They just beat VT last Sat.

Stanford? Didn't they just hire Walt Williams last year?

I love the hot seat rumor stuff, does anyone have any good links to that kind of stuff?

another coach to add to the list is rutgers' coach, schiano (sp?), he's done a really good job and has been receiving a lot of attention.
Good point, its pretty sad when the only D-I program you can make fun of is Temple. He's done great things there in the last 4-5 years.
(In my mind) With his ties, I think he's Miami's choice (if Coker's is fired)

We did hire a HC from a mid-major program, remember Dennis Franchione?

The Wake Forest coach has done a really good job with a historically bad football program. What about the West Virginia coach, would he be willing to go to a bigger school where he has a chance to win a championship?

I am surprised that Rodriguez from WVA hasn't jumped ship already. I used to hear all kinds of rumors about how unhappy he was up there in Coal Mining country.
