After watching both of USC's games a couple of times, I have noticed that they run some pick plays, especially on third down situations. I hope our coaches have noticed this and notify the officials before the game on Saturday. They can be very hard for the refs to see if they are not keeping an eye out for them.

Much like the pick the TCU receiver threw last night on the play that won the game? That was a good one. Couldn't have done it better on b-ball floor.

I don't suppose you're talking about the SC basketball team, and I suspect you're not referring to the pick-and-roll...

The rule is hard to enforce. Spurrier has always used one receiver to impede the coverage of another, and stretches the definition of the rule to its breaking point.

Why is that? Is it just that hard to see, or is it just something the refs don't mess with?

Good coaching. The WR's make it look like them and the DB just happen to run into each other and the real good actors..............I mean wr's start screaming for a flag on the DB.

I think they call it a "rub" instead of a pick, although it is essentially the same thing. The idea is to not completely block the DB but to chip him enough that he loses a step. This extra step along with a decent QB can be enough to make a good play. The play the other night was an abvious pick and should have been called.

CSS always did come off like a lawyer. Lets not split hairs here, a pick is a pick...is a pick is a pick. I just love how CSS calls it a "rub", haha sure thing stevie.

The rule is...

7-3 (j), and it's very broad:

j. Tackling or grasping a receiver or any other intentional contact before
he touches the pass is evidence that the tackler is disregarding the ball
and is therefore illegal.
