UT Fans becoming delusional

Good Lord,

Please forgive the idolatry that has overtaken my life. Why did I have to read every last post? Why did I not see ONE, not even ONE Vols fan admit that the calls against them that WERE MADE were accurate. Why oh why did not ONE of them at least point out the whole game changed because of TWO non calls in THEIR FAVOR.

God Grant me
the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change
the Courage to change the things I can
AND
the WISDOM to know the difference

Competing is the key word...the coaching talent in the SEC is insane. Right now BAMA, LSU & UF are in the best position to dominate their respective division rivals, but when you look at where the UTee is, they are in the mix with AU, Arky, OleMiss, & UGA, and occasionally USCe, in battling it out trying to knock off the top 3 in order to get to Atlanta every year. Its not going to be easy as long as Saban is at BAMA, Meyer is UF and Miles is at LSU.
In other words, they might as well be happy with 8-9-10 wins every other year, because thats probably as good as its gonna get for any of them, imo. And no, I'm not predicting we're going undefeated every season, but what I'm saying is the Top 3 are not standing still either. It remains to be seen, but Kiffin's resume does nothing to suggest he's going to reach the pinnacle any time soon.
Compete? Yes, but sooner or later, it won't be enough. IF, Meyer does leave UF, I could see UTee gaining a stronghold on the east division, because Richt/UGA is slipping fast. But I think it would take something like that for UTee to get beyond the level they are currently within the SEC.

Why makes you think the two programs would flip/flop? Florida will always have a recruiting advantage over the viles and it's unlikely that the Gators will hire a Shula type coach, I think they learned their lesson with the Zooker.

Besides, Kiffin hasn't really proven anything yet, at least not to me. They played us and Florida close, but that's hardly grounds to anoint him as a championship caliber coach.

What most UT fans still don't seem to understand, or refuse to accept, was just how much of a role Roy Kramer played in their success during the Fulmer years.

no doubt CLK has ut playing well, and recruiting well. It's not unheard of for a coach to come in to a situation where the previous coach had grown stale, he injects new life into the program, and they do well in the new coach's first 2-3 years. I'm curious to see what CLK can do from a sustainability standpoint.

Yeah, I don't disagree with you. I think it will depend on who UF would hire for sure. Honestly I don't see Meyer leaving like some do. But all I'm saying is that would be UTee's chance, were it to happen. I'm not sold on Kiffin, I don't care what recruits he gets. Remember Zook? Orgeron? Good recruiter does not a good coach make, although it definately helps and they will be competitive. If you read my previous post, you'll see that my point is that for the time being UTee is middle tier and I don't see that changing any time soon.
But thats just my opinion.

Injecting a little spirit into a group of upper-classmen is all that Kiffin has done. Yes, sustainability is the key that we have yet to see. When you know that it is your Mulligan first year you can let it all hang out. That is absolutely without a doubt all that Kiffin and his staff have done. Develop a full 3 years of recruits and coach them to there junior and senior years and we will then gage this staffs ability. I live near Chattanooga, and all the hype is simply coming from the fact that UT has consistently had Coaching staffs that were 15 and 20 year mainstays and the new staff and close loses have just fueled there desire for hope!!!! Most Vile fans concede this fact. We will see. The same process has to take effect in Knoxville as did in T-town. Stay tuned. Lame-Train is just in the infinite stages. They are 5-4. Not exactly a miracle season.

Good point.....Saban went 7-5 his first season, 12-0 his 2nd. Kiffin will not do that at TN next yr. I know it just isn't fair comparing anyone to Saban....(sarcasm)....but if someone sets a benchmark you can't just ignore it can you???:biggrin2:

I don't know. The TIDE has certainly set the benchmark to which all the SEC schools compare their own teams. I don't see why comparing their coaches to ours would be unreasonable.
[I think it was Coach Petrino at Arkansas who said "When we play Georgia we'll find out how far we've come. When we play Alabama, we'll know how much further we have to go."]

So I say let the UT faithful compare Kiffin to Saban if they want. Give them this season, and next and if necessary, the one after that to recruit new players and install their 'system'. Then let them see the separation of quality between their coach and ours.

I was kidding REB...:biggrin2:

For the past five years we have all heard about how good Ga,SC.Ole Miss and now UT are going to be. My prediction is, Alabama and Florida and maybe LSU and Auburn will be the bad boys of the SEC. For the most part,it will be Bama/Fla and the rest of them. Bama will be the top gun and will dominate. I think we will win four out of five SEC Crowns over the next five years.

I'm more worried about Arkansas and Mississippi State gaining traction than I am Auburn. Petrino is one or two recruiting classes away from a contender, and Mullen has a talent-starved team on the cusp of bowl eligibility. As for Kiffin and UT, let's see how he weathers the storm next year, when he's playing with far less talented and experienced team. He has neither the coaching nor the life experience to deal with the firestorm of criticism he's going to hear next year.

100% agree....Arkansas is about to be a problem. Teams with young secondaries or avg ones are about to be embarrassed by the Hogs. If they can get a solid D that will keep them in games they will be very, very dangerous in the upcoming yrs. To me Arky is the closest to contending.

I agree Arkansas is very close but in the areas where they recruit, they have to compete with the Big12,the Big Ten and the SEC. One five star recruit per year will not get you in the big two tier,Alabama/Florida. I know we hate Auburn but if we take them lightly, could come back and bite us. Their new coach is doing a decent job all things considered.

Guys, look at a team's head coach rather than their previous/former tradition. Men like Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, and Bobby Petrino would win even if they were at places like Toledo and Bowling Green (oh, wait....). Who are the real powers in the SEC going to be down the road:

Alabama
Florida
LSU
Arkansas

Why? The men in charge of those programs rock, especially CNS and Urban. The jury is out on UT. They will recruit well, but beating UF and Bama yearly will be dang near impossible. I remember when Shula was coaching and we were in every game his first year, I continued to try to make myself believe that "Bama's back!!! Finally! This is what I have grown up hearing about my whole life"...but 3-4 lack-luster years down the road, I realized it was just me framing the issue.

*Man, those Shula years were tough. The words "Bama's back!" were continuously said over minor wins. Now that Bama really is back, I have no need to shout it. UT will probably go through the same stages.

I am in no way saying we're gonna win an NC within 3-years, but I do think we will take control of the UF-UT series, if not starting next year, then in 2011 (call me delusional). I also think that we will regularly be back in the hunt for the SEC East again...

Recruiting is step 1, and he has done that. Coaching is step 2, and I think he has shown this year that that he and this staff know how to coach Xs and Os. Step 3 is substaining it. As y'all have said, and I agree, the jury is still out, however (and call me a homer if you please), I think he can and he will get going and keep it going

They lose a bunch all over the field after this season. Hardesty, Berry(prolly go pro) + 2 more in the secondary, their best LB, BOTH DE's, their best QB Incrompatent, 3 off the OL including their 2 best in the Sullins twins-one of which is the center, and there are more but that is the most significant players off the top of my head.

TN......2010 SCHEDULE
Sept. 4 (To be determined) I am assuming cake walk game here
Sept. 11 Oregon.....loss
Sept. 18 Florida....loss
Sept. 25 UAB....win
Oct. 2 at LSU....loss
Oct. 9 at Georgia....either way
Oct. 23 Alabama....loss
Oct. 30 at South Carolina....either way/ prolly a loss
Nov. 6 at Memphis....win
Nov. 13 Mississippi....either way/prolly a win
Nov. 20 at Vanderbilt....win
Nov. 27 Kentucky....either way

4 sure losses and only 3 sure wins

GA gets it's D together they have the talent to beat them nxt yr....SC only graduates 9 and Norwood the only key player, Snead will probably come back for another yr at Ole Miss yet they lose a ton on offense so I will give this one to TN, KY loses a lot of OL but many key players return ALL their RB's and Hartline will still be there should be a good game between 2 mediocre teams.

They way I see it TN's outlook for nxt yr as a whole is 5-5 with 2 toss ups that could go either way....they will be fighting for bowl eligibility all yr.

TN could very easily be 2-5 after playing us next season.

Hold on there good buddy! We both know UT won't start 2-5 next year. They may lose 2-3 at the most. I think we take Florida and Oregon and it should be another close one with AL. We lose at LSU. I think we lose 2-3 games at the very worst.

Taking on UF next year will be very tough, I think you know that. Delusional? If you aren't a little delusional then you aren't a real college football fan. We all think our team can win a MNC every year, as I'm sure even Memphis or UAB fans believe this.

Also, Vol-nation is just a trashy web-site. I understand the rivalry, I hate UT more than anyone, but at least I can sit here and give you guys props when necessary.
