I know that Venables and his "staff" pretty much invented sign stealing when he was at Clemson. Does anyone know if he is still doing that? Do we (Alabama) have anything to worry about in that regard?
Apparently, yes.I know that Venables and his "staff" pretty much invented sign stealing when he was at Clemson. Does anyone know if he is still doing that?
Not really. Per Ryan Grubb: "[The Sooners are] good at that, No. 1. And No. 2, we're changing everything. So if coach Venables is listening, just know they're all changing," Grubb said with a laugh. "They do everything within the parameters of the game, though. There's nothing illegal about what they do [emphasis added]. They're good at what they do, so you certainly have to take that into consideration."Do we (Alabama) have anything to worry about in that regard?
I thought that was the reason behind the radio receivers in certain helmets.I know that Venables and his "staff" pretty much invented sign stealing when he was at Clemson. Does anyone know if he is still doing that? Do we (Alabama) have anything to worry about in that regard?
I thought it was supposed to stop it, too. But I guess it's still quicker to use signs so the whole team can see it simultaneously and not depend upon the QB and huddlingI thought that was the reason behind the radio receivers in certain helmets.
When they said that, it made me wonder if one reason we have been changing the play so late at the line, under 15sec a lot of times, is because of that cutoff.I thought it was supposed to stop it, too. During the OU-Ole Miss game, they made it a point to show how Ole Miss would wait until after the 15 sec mark (when the comms cut off) to break the huddle so OU couldn't tell their mic'd guy the adjustments to make
Yep, seems to me you could use the exact same signs every week but have a couple of water boys/girls with either hands on their hips, crossed arms, picking their nose or some sign directing the play to proceed/do the opposite on every down. Change the true sign giver on every series.I think about it from the context of the third base coach in baseball.
Some of those guys giving a runner on 1st or 2nd are throwing body and hand gestures all over the place, with most of it having no meaning at all. Just randomly throwing signals that may mean something, but really mean nothing.
I'm sure some of that goes on football sidelines as well. Use the radio in the QB's helmet.

Michigan and to a lesser extent bvI thought that was the reason behind the radio receivers in certain helmets.
He absolutely still does it...I know that Venables and his "staff" pretty much invented sign stealing when he was at Clemson. Does anyone know if he is still doing that? Do we (Alabama) have anything to worry about in that regard?
Apparently, yes.

“Just really good scouting!”Michigan only got caught bc they were incredibly sloppy and already had ncaa investigators on campus for other inquiries. Bv invented sending people to games to pre scout teams. It’s fact they had a guy at our sec championship and first round games the year they blew us out.
awbern is a master at this as well...I know that Venables and his "staff" pretty much invented sign stealing when he was at Clemson. Does anyone know if he is still doing that? Do we (Alabama) have anything to worry about in that regard?
Does anyone remember the conspiracy theory that they would listen in on opponents headsets? Always seemed far fetched but they did seem to always know what we were up to hahaawbern is a master at this as well...![]()
IIRC, one of the manufacturers/suppliers was based in the awbern area...Does anyone remember the conspiracy theory that they would listen in on opponents headsets? Always seemed far fetched but they did seem to always know what we were up to haha
