Visions of 10 wins dancing in my head

With the exception of the o-line and the ever-present possibilty of serious injuries there is no reason for any true believer to think that the Tide should not win 10 games next year. With the stability the team will have and the defense being "da bomb diggadi" I am expecting 10 wins (I'm an optimist). No one can tell me that the team sent out the first three games of this year was doomed to lose any of the games in which they lost the rest of the year. I truly feel that Bama could have been undefeated and in Auburn's shoes (except respect and tradition would have us at #1 or #2). Our defense ranked 2nd nationally and that was with a busted offense. Is there any doubt that they would have finished first with the original starting lineup in every game? And if I am remembering correctly, the last time we finished with the nation's best defense good things happened 34-13!!!

That's the big ? at this point. We're losing a lot of talent and senior leadership. But, just like this year, I think our OL will surprise a lot of people and be better than expected.

Reality check

The possibility of a 10 win season is still 2-3 years away. Our numbers will be a bit better for 2005 but take another nose dive in 2006. We lose a BUNCH after 2005, especially on defense. JMO, but I see roughly 6-7 wins next year. Our schedule is a bit tougher and getting tougher by the minute with Meyer leading Florida and Spurrier leading South Carolina. I wish I could echo your optimism, but I think it's a bit unfair and unrealistic to expect 10 wins next year...

I agree with Script A, but I see us winning about 8 games. I wouldnt be surprised if we got 10 though. One of the SEC coaches said that he does not want to play this Bama team next year and the year after, this team will be deadly.

You don't think that with Brodie, that this team wouldn't have won a lot more games? We certainly would have beaten USC, Arkansas, and Tennessee. Maybe even LSU and Auburn. Next year he is coming back and our offense is really going to click. One of the announcers for the LSU game made a great point--there isn't an injury in college football that had a bigger impact on the BCS this year than Brodie's. I agree that we will lose a lot after 2005, but those players that we will be losing still have 13 games to play. I think that out of 2005 and 2006, that the 2005 team is going to have a much better chance at going undefeated. In 2006, we will be breaking in a completely new QB and that makes a big difference.

I am sorry but as a Bama fan I am sick of hearing other bama fans on this board think we are going to win 6-7 games next year because of depth...Are you stupid? This team this year would MIGHT have lost 2 games at the most w/ our starting backfield this season...and you are expecting a 6-5 record again??? I mean come on, we are Alabama and every year we are supposed to expect 13 wins! I just don't understand how you get 6-5 next year when 10 of our 11 starters return of the #2 D in the land...plus Brodie and the rest of our backfield. I can maybe understand yalls concerns for th O-line...but my gosh next year believe me we won't have any depth problems there, just look at all the big boys shula is bringin in. Most of this board predicted 6-5 for this year along with all the magazines...AND WE DID THAT WITH OUR 3RD STRING BACKFIELD!!!!! Im sorry but all of you that predict 6 wins next year are just crazy because there is no way this team is losing 3 or more games....just listen to Brodie on the interview on tidesports.com....He said we should have a very good team and their goal is to win the sec and bcs bowl....NOW why don't all of us expect that. Roll Tide!!!!

It's obvious 12 that you don't understand how NCAA sanctions are designed to work. They are implemented to cripple a program for several seasons, not just 1 or 2. Yes we went 6-5 this year with almost our third string backfield, but we also had an excellent O-line doing the work. Next year we won't have that luxury with probable 3 true freshmen or redshirt freshmen starting. Our D should not fall off next year with most starters returning, but one main reason BAMA's defense stats were so good this year is because of our schedule (Utah State, W. Carolina, etc.) I'm not knocking our D at all, they're awesome, but next years schedule will be a bit tougher if not a lot tougher. And yes depth will be a factor again next year and the year after that. It's because that's what losing 21 scholly's is designed to do, hurt you, and 21 will hurt you for a while...

Sanctions

will cause a little more pain before it's over. The lingering effects will be with us a couple more years. I am looking for 7-8-9 wins next season and believe that's about the most we can expect. The rebuilding began this year and in Feb we are all going to be elated with the new class of recruits. More numbers beginning next year, but 10 wins may be a couple years away.

10 wins are definately possible next year, however, it will take the O-line rebuilding and becoming the force it was this year, and injury luck. I see 8 as a good number, with the possibility of winning the West and playing in Atlanta the first weekend of December if everything comes together.

The effects of the sanctions won't be completely gone for another 2 years at least. For the first couple of years, we've dealt with no depth. Now, we'll have depth for a couple of years, but it'll be inexperienced. By 2007, we should be completely over the sanctions. Of course, that doesn't mean we can't win.

i believe, tops would be 8 wins, because as stated, we lose the nucleous of a great offensive line. this line provided the blocking for ray hudson, and ken darby. i dont see the blocking being that solid next year with 3 replacements. the pass blocking will suffer some as well. and if brodie should retire, we will have a freshman, i would expect as our starting qb. offense will still suffer early, and once again it will be up to the defense, give us the chance of winning. ball control, running the ball is what keeps defenses fresh, and in a position to control the game. we will have a big test next year again.

I have to agree Script A, I believe that we are a couple of years away too. We are going to have to build an alter and pray to the football gods so that Bama will be able to stay healthy next year. Due to probation, Bama has no depth. Everybody has injuries, so it will take a couple of years for Coach Shula to get the depth up.
