Judge permanently blocks Trump EO requiring proof of citizenship to vote

The judge ruled that the president lacks the authority to oversee elections.
She upheld her own injunction? My, my, my, I didn't see that coming. I'm also curious of the use of the word "permanently." I don't think that's how this works.....unless it's an assumption that any appeals to this ruling will automatically be upheld by the U.S. First Circuit.

PETERS: Yes or no, if a state refuses to turn their absentee voter list to the federal government, will the Postal Service still mail their ballots under this proposed rule?

POSTMASTER GENERAL STEINER: No.

PETERS: So the proposed rule basically coerces states to hand over their absentee voter rolls or face the consequences of not being able to vote by mail
lots of folks are loving this brazen lawlessness when they think it pwns the libs

It's pretty much the mindset.

They don't really care if a 13 yr old girl bit his peepee.

As long as they can make it look like they are p0Wning the libs again.

I mean, Hillary was castigated by calling them deplorables.

But they tolerate this miscreant.

What else can you say about them?

they're consistent?

Of course it's fake. But that doesn't stop a good lie from getting legs if it's repeated enough times in the rightwingosphere.

The SAVE Act is just another attempt to suppress votes.
Both sides know it but neither want to talk about it. Its about 'discouraging' certain minority voters from voting. Those minority voters lean heavily Democratic. 🤷‍♂️

When you have a sitting President pressuring the post office to stop processing mail-in ballots, it exposes the whole scheme entirely.

And if your really look at the SAVE act itself....you realize that it s already illegal for non-citizens to try to vote. The ID part is just an attempt to suppress non-MAGA votes.

Supreme Court rules mail-in ballots arriving after Election Day can be counted

A decision against such ballots could have upended election procedures in states across the country ahead of the midterm elections.
The Supreme Court on Monday upheld a Mississippi law that allows officials to tally mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day that arrive later, a decision that keeps voting procedures in place in several states as the midterm elections loom.

In an 5-4 ruling, the justices turned aside a challenge by Republicans and Libertarians, who argued federal law preempts a Mississippi statute that allows the counting of such ballots that arrive up to five days after polls close.

The decision could make less likely similar legal challenges in 14 states that allow the counting of ballots that arrive days or weeks after polls close. Most states require mail-in ballots to be received by Election Day.

President Donald Trump and some Republican allies have falsely argued that voter fraud is rampant in mail-in balloting. Trump partly blamed his loss in the 2020 presidential election on mail-in votes and unsuccessfully called on states to stop tallying them during the contest.

Despite so much press and basically lies, lies, and more lies... There is not one credible shred of evidence that illegals routinely vote here in any numbers. It is a cover to suppress minorities and women.

Both sides should have to win on the strength of their platforms and not hide behind voter suppression techniques.

And woman too... particularly given that they typically change names.
I'm my wife's second husband. She's already learned that, traveling abroad, she has to carry copies of her divorce degree and marriage certificate. I haven't re-read SAVE, but I don't believe copies are acceptable...

They are not. The requirement are onerous and affect many millions... Our AI overlord says:

Under the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, voting rights organizations and policy analysts estimate that between 60 million and 69 million American women could face significant hurdles or potential disenfranchisement due to name changes from marriage or divorce.

The core issue stems from how the bill defines "documentary proof of citizenship" required to register to vote or update an existing registration (such as after moving or changing political parties).

Why the Impact is So High

  • The Name-Match Disconnect: According to data from the Pew Research Center, roughly 79% to 80% of women in opposite-sex marriages take their husband's last name, and another 5% hyphenate. This means the vast majority of married or previously married women have current legal names that do not match the name on their U.S. birth certificate.
  • The Passport Problem: A valid, unexpired U.S. passport bypasses this issue because it displays a person's current legal married name. However, only about half of Americans hold a passport, and that number drops significantly among lower-income and rural populations.
  • The Paperwork Chain: For a woman without a passport, presenting a standard birth certificate would no longer be enough on its own. Under the proposed rules, she would have to provide a clear, continuous paper trail—such as a certified marriage license or divorce decree—to legally link the name on her birth certificate to her current identity.

The Logistics Burden

If a voter's documentation names do not match, the bill effectively leaves the process of verifying identity up to individual states. Voting advocacy groups like the League of Women Voters and VoteRiders note that this introduces several complications:

  • Acquisition Costs: Tracking down official, certified copies of decades-old marriage licenses or birth certificates takes time and money, which acts as a disproportionate barrier for working-class individuals.
  • In-Person Constraints: Because the act prioritizes strict verification, many states would require these documents to be presented in person at a county election office, creating an immense travel burden for rural voters.

Its sad and foreboding this was 5-4 ruling...

Trump plans prime-time speech on 2020 election allegations

The address follows a White House briefing on findings from the administration’s probes into the loss the president never accepted.

President Donald Trump is planning a prime-time address Thursday that will use findings from reexamined government files to argue that the country’s election infrastructure has vulnerabilities, according to two people briefed on the plan.

Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Tuesday that the speech would concern voting machines but declined to elaborate. “It will concern that subject, and we’ll have a couple of other things to say, also,” he said. “But I’d rather save it. But it’s really big news.”

The president could use the address to press his long-standing allegations of foreign interference in the 2020 election, the results of which he has never accepted. The speech, in part, will highlight claims that China accessed U.S. voter data, said the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a plan that has not been made public. Trump is also expected to discuss findings related to Venezuela, they said.

Ossoff: There's talk that he might try to declare me and Raphael Warnock illegitimate senators. Obviously, the President has no power to do that, but he does have the power to try to intimidate people. He's demonstrated his will to abuse power.

I expect him to use whatever he puts out there on Thursday as a pretext, either for some attempted unconstitutional use of federal power to interfere in the election, or to give his proxies and loyalists in state and local jurisdictions some cover for whatever they might attempt, or to lay the groundwork for challenging the result.

And the bottom line is that this is a real and live threat to voting rights in the United States right now.

I know it will never happen, but any legitimate news organization should refuse to cover the president's speech when we know for a fact that it is based on nothing but lies and manufactured outrage.

And the bottom line is that this is a real and live threat to voting rights in the United States right now.

It is only going to get worse between now and November. Trump and his klan are not even trying to hide the fact that they plan to interfere in this election.

Many Trumper supporting poster have said we were fearmongering or talking nonsense for years by saying that Trump was going to do exactly what he is now doing. Funny how these posters are deafly silent now.
