As an interesting note, Kauffman is biking 3,000 miles across America in 30 days to raise support to build clean water wells and help save lives in Haiti.
One of the Ks signed is a punter...Please help me wrap my brain around this one:
I'll freely admit I don't follow recruiting the way I should but traditionally, a team never gives a scholly to a K or P unless a desperate need. We obviously have that, but why did we sign 2 K's? I can understand one and then usually several walk-ons (ex-soccer players, etc) fight for the spot.
Did Saban not know about this guy? Is he not that impressive that Saban felt the need to sign another K? I just can't figure it out....
disclaimer- I trust in Saban but this one makes me scratch my head.....
Like most of the players committed to the University of Alabama for the 2010 signing class, Jay Williams started his season with a bang as the starting punter for Thomasville.
Read the article. He's attending Alabama on an academic scholarship. Please help me wrap my brain around this one:

This kid is not coming in on scholarship. He will have to sit for two years or he will have to count against scholarship numbers. Please help me wrap my brain around this one:

Why would he have to sit two years? Tiffin was a walk-on and started a few games his freshman year. It was not until he was a jr that he was offered a scholarship. Maybe I do not remember this correct. This kid is not coming in on scholarship. He will have to sit for two years or he will have to count against scholarship numbers.
He is coming to Alabama on an Educational Scholarship (4.7 GPA). Does he still have to sit two years or have to convert the educational schollie to a sports schollie? This kid is not coming in on scholarship. He will have to sit for two years or he will have to count against scholarship numbers.
Foster is the immediate kicker of the future, but this is a backup plan.
Competition also breeds success.
How in the hell is a 4.7 even possible?? Are tennessee high schools different for something? I know you can get bonus points for taking AP classes and some advanced placement classes, but my goodness I don't think I have ever heard of a GPA as high as 4.5. I think the highest I have ever seen is a 4.34.7 GPA. Could we have another potential Rhodes Scholar joining the team?
Not uncommon anywhere in the country. He has loaded up on AP courses. How in the hell is a 4.7 even possible?? Are tennessee high schools different for something? I was also wondering this. It made my 4.0 in college seem very unimpressive (I know they are different grading systems though). Man, that kid is smart. How in the hell is a 4.7 even possible??
