Was the season a success anyway?

This is the issue. I would say “successful” had we competed in games against UGA and Indiana. However, for whatever reason we simply didn’t show up for those games - as well as FSU. I can understand FSU because it was the first game, but that shouldn’t have happened again.

Consistency and improvement… did we see that get better as the year went along? The answer is “no”… and because that’s the answer it wasn’t a successful season.

When I think about those two things, I go back to Saban’s tenure when I knew one of the guys who watched daily practices. One day during a week about halfway through the season I asked my guy “how do you think we’ll play Saturday?” His answer was “I don’t know, but I know we’re not going to have any penalties!” The week before, we’d had 10 penalties for over 100 yards losses. That Saturday, we had one penalty and had four or less the rest of the year.

Point is that they improved because it was emphasized. I’m not sure HOW it was, but Saban clearly got the issue corrected and the team improved. Today… are we a better football team than the group that took the field against FSU on August 30?
Pretty much echoed what I’m thinking. I don’t want to cycle through coaches just because we lose a few games, but HOW we compete matters. You just can’t keep laying eggs like today, the SECCG, and the FSU game (or OU and Vandy last year). CKD should get some time to figure it out, but 2026 will be critical for him to at least start turning the corner. I just don’t have a lot of confidence, but maybe it’s just the humiliation of today clouding my view.

No 4 loss season is a success in the playoff/ portal era
I agree, but it's becoming the norm. Bama became the first 3 loss team allowed in the playoffs. the precedence has been set. each year the criteria will continue to change depending on the committee's narrative or agenda. I believe if a 3 loss Texas was allowed to make it in, they would beat Ohio St the second time around.

It’s not just 4 losses , but two were by the score of 66-10. Unacceptable. Every year there are too many embarrassing losses.

This question cannot yet be truly answered.

First, we need to know what offseason changes this season will produce.

Second, we need to know what measure of improvement in key areas those changes will effect next season.

It was ALMOST a success.

If
A: Alabama didn't get blown out by FSU
OR
B: Didn't get dominated in the SECCG
OR
C: Didn't get dominated in the quarterfinal.

If any one of those three things didn't happen, I think we could feel a lot better about things. But they did, and those three bad performances, coupled with that fluky but forgivable Oklahoma loss combined to be rather unimpressive. It's a shame because Alabama went on a great run when they beat Georgia/Vandy/Missouri/Tennessee consecutively, which is about as good a regular season run as we've seen from any team in years.

It's just heavily tarnished by the fact that this team couldn't start or finish the season well.

The fact that we made it to the playoff and won in the first round after the disaster FSU game was a success in my book. The IU beatdown was bad, but we were playing with house money at this point. I want to see a revamped OL next season and a new QB. I am not sold on Simpson.

Here is thing…. Concerning Simpson.

What more could we realistically ask for with a lack of a running game and an erratic offensive line? There are some here that keep complaining about DeBoer letting Sayin leave but Wednesday night and the B1G championship showed he is like every other quarterback under pressure in that he will make mistakes. Sayin would’ve been very mortal with this line.

So if Sayin isn’t it… then where do go?

Mack… have we really seen anything from him that says he is the answer?

Russell??? Well he came to spring camp hurt and from all reports he was way behind in the system. So do we want to rush him out there and live with the losses that we would undoubtedly have under him?

I think Ty was the best option by far and he did well enough to get us where we were at.

One positive I can say… atleast we can finally close the book on the 23 quarterback controversy. Neither won a championship and both ended their career in the Rose bowl. So neither was the answer to the glaring offensive line and running back issues. They just were different potential ideas to addressing it.

Yes, the season was successful. We made the SECCG and won a road playoff game. Today was an absolute disaster, but the season was a success. To think otherwise is probably being disingenuous to what we all, individually, thought Alabama could accomplish at the beginning of the year.

Oklahoma was definitely trending toward a blowout, 17-0, then dropped td - dropped punt attempt - head scratcher pick six

Milroe didn’t win a SEC championship?

The Film Guy has a very informative channel on youtube. I suggest people go back and watch some of his breakdowns of Bama games this year. I have serious doubts as to the coaching of the OL. I know we had some injuries, but the communication and scheme were a clown show at times. We need to get that resolved, and then I think we will see a lot better week to week performance. Earlier in the season there were a lot of issues with the DL as well. You can't be great with mediocre line play.

So overall we had the record I thought we would have. These blowout losses make it very difficult to remember this as a good year.

Losing two of our last three games to the tune of a combined 66-10 is NOT what I envisioned at the start of the season!

In a 12-team playoff, 11 teams lose. We were one of them. We have high expectations, and by our record met them.

Watching these other playoff teams being able to run-block even against this high level competition, I question why we never could. I hope changes are made in the o-line coaching. (Side note: what's Sam Pittman up to?)

There are X's and O's issues that I am sure others can identify and articulate better than I can, but I don't particularly like what we've put on the field on offense in the CKD era.

Saying 11 lose out of 12 is true but acting like they are all equal is not true.
