I agree a million percent, buttttt, I want too see Simpson playing behind a good OLINE..The fact that we made it to the playoff and won in the first round after the disaster FSU game was a success in my book. The IU beatdown was bad, but we were playing with house money at this point. I want to see a revamped OL next season and a new QB. I am not sold on Simpson.
Oklahoma was definitely trending toward a blowout, 17-0, then dropped td - dropped punt attempt - head scratcher pick six
Exactly! The WAY we are losing is unacceptable at Bama.had we played well, with toughness, discipline and effort throughout the game tonight and still gotten beat I'd have said this was a successful season.
The burr under my saddle is not that we're losing some games, but in how we lost them in the last couple of years. When we seem unprepared for what's coming our way, or unable to adapt to what is in front of us, that makes me think we are regressing instead of progressing, and that isn't success to me.
So there is a way of losing you prefer? A loss is a loss.Exactly! The WAY we are losing is unacceptable at Bama.
Yes, being competative and not loking totally inept. So there is a way of losing you prefer? A loss is a loss.
It's hard to find clarity when your head is still spinning.
The focus seems to be on 3 losses: FSU, Georgia and IU.
FSU: I have no explanation for what happened there. I don't know if anybody does. Even CKD. But we bounced back and rectified in a way that NOBODY last Aug. 31 thought was possible!
Georgia in the SECCG: We were beat to a pulp. Combine that with Georgia being as fired up about not losing to us again and we had virtually no way of winning that game. We would have been much better not "winning the regular season SEC" and being in that game. But the reason we won the SEC regular season is WE BEAT GEORGIA when we were healthy. If Georgia is the team alot of people think we measure ourselves against, we beat them when we had a healthy QB and a OL that played a good game.
IU: They were a complete team and their OL was the "star" of it. To me, this is the most glaring, obvious difference in them and us. They didn't do anything spectacular except block and run the ball. We don't have an OL that will allow for that. Full stop! That is the difference...plus our QB was playing with multiple injuries and got hurt during the game. This was the game the dam broke.
I'm not trying to be a sunshine pumper, but I think I'm being realistic. We are NOT going to win a NC every year. Couldn't even do that with CNS; the goat, when the college football conditions and playing field were controlled/ruled by him. Now, a team that's named Oregon, Miami, OM or IU will be crowned champions. How many of you had those four teams in your preseason final four bracket? Welcome to the new world.
But, back to us and this team's accomplishments. We won 11 games without a servicable OL that couldn't push a DL back to get a 3rd and 1 ALL YEAR LONG! And in the rare times they did, our RBs were so hesitant or blind they couldn't see the hole. And, to top it off, our starting QB, who early in the year was at the top of the Heisman conversation, got hurt and played injured the rest of the year.
And yet, we still beat some good teams, played in the SECCG, made the CFP for the first time under CKD...all with a broken offense and a dadgum good defense!
Alabama’s flaws have been known for o er half the season. A veteran group of college football players took advantage of them.Yes, being competative and not loking totally inept.
Yep. Them and Miami. The smashed us the way we used to smash teams...nothing fancy, nothing exotic...they just lined up and whipped our butts for 60 minutes and by the middle of the 3rd quarter we had basically quit.
We knew what areas needed improvement before the season started and the most glaring was the OL. I don't think there was much if any improvement there.Yes, penalties went down, the defense was fairly solid, and the offense gave glimpses of what a good passing attack can do.
Areas that need work were also identified.
I’m on the S&C bandwagon now as well.Yep. Them and Miami.
Old school OL/DL domination in the trenches.
Our defense can get better/deeper, but we all know the real issue is overhauling the OL. STAT!
Transfers were brought in that didn’t pan out, freshmen got some experience, and things will get better. We knew what areas needed improvement before the season started and the most glaring was the OL. I don't think there was much if any improvement there.
Go read '81's post in the post game thread. We knew what areas needed improvement before the season started and the most glaring was the OL. I don't think there was much if any improvement there.
I think the S & C is vital to the culture...if you watch the Netflix doc about the UF days with Tebow or the old 80's Miami teams...they developed their team culture in the weight room...they were there in the middle of the night, or after a loss and held each other accountable...today's players arent really built from that cloth but there is no reason a culture cannot be established in a similar manner. It starts with the HC not making excuses and talking about fine lines after a whooping.I’m on the S&C bandwagon now as well.
Kyle Whittingham was on ESPN and they asked him about changing the program at Michigan and he said it started with hiring the right S&C coach, that’s where it all began.
So, full course reversal for me, if that’s what it takes to establish physicality, so be it. Grind them, and the ones that don’t crumble get to play.
