Jessica....from your linked story:

The incident began when a person saw Landry asleep in her car, and called police to check to see if Landry was alright.

Sounds like she was in violation of the law, obtuse, arrogant, rude, then decided she was going to resist arrest. IMHO, she only got what she asked for.

The cops should have said this....

"Ma'am...you know how this works. We're cops. And as such - we are always in power-trip mode. OK- what does this mean to you? It means that when we ask for something.....we expect to get it. No matter how logical your argument is....this is a power trip deal. Nothing more...nothing less. So unfortunately, there's only one way for this to end. You need to do exactly what we say. No ifs, ands, or buts. So let's just get on with it so we can all go on our merry way."

She should have just supplied her ID, as Jessica said.

The side of a road is no place to argue with law enforcement!

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for everybody sleeping in the park. Seems like a fairly popular idea in Atlanta, too.

I understand your point, but what would you say if she was unconscious and no one cared to call the cops? Would it be their business then?

The reality is that until we demand our local and state governments stop making unnecessary regulations the cops can 'enforce' on a whim, nothing will change. I'm not anti-police, but I'm sick and tired of cops abusing people while hiding behind the law - just because something is written in the law does not make it moral or right.
As a whole, I see law enforcement doing a great job. Are there some bad apples? Yes. But most do a good job with enforcement. All the hate towards law enforcement astounds me.

Agreed.....there are times when calling the police makes sense.

I wasn't there so can't speak to all the details here. I dunno....wouldn't you go up to the car and tap on the window if you were concerned...before calling five-o? It's not like this lady looked like some drug dealer thug type.

Some would get involved and some wouldn't. Such is our society.

Not sure I would call it "hate", though that's the popular thing to say about those who disagree or hold a different opinion now: Haters gonna hate...and all that. I'd say it's close to mistrust and disgust. And frankly the police have only themselves to blame for that sentiment.

The last time I got a ticket was seven or eight years ago. I rolled a stop sign at a three-way stop in my own neighborhood on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. I was bringing a pizza back to the house for an upcoming football game. I was a few blocks from my house; there was no other traffic on the road. I didn't notice the unmarked police car on the side street. He pulled me over and was all attitude and very aggressive. I admitted I rolled the stop sign and didn't respond to his stupid questions trying to belittle me. This made him even madder. I told him I already admitted to rolling the stop sign on an empty street and that's why I rolled it. I told him I understood he was there to raise revenue for the city/county (hence the unmarked car) and that apparently all the real crime had been solved. I told him I will not grovel or be intimidated and to go ahead and write the ticket since that was his obvious intention. I had plenty of money in the bank and points to give on my license, so whatever. I had a slice of pizza while he did so; I didn't offer him any.

This, in my opinion, has been a longstanding problem and has been wrongfully accepted by our society as normal when it comes to officers. There's too many ego driven, power hungry personality types who strangely enough gravitate toward law enforcement and end up on patrol. I've only had a handful of encounters with LEO's during my lifetime. Though I've never been physically assaulted by one. I can tell you the majority of the encounters were me having to put up with a smart mouth officer who went outside the scope of his job verbally. Yet the citizen has to sit there and basically take it. They've done themselves no favors regarding public perception.

That is a stupid law. That being said had she not acted so abrasive she would have been skating on out of there in a couple of minutes. If you find yourself in a hole no matter how you got there DON"T DIG IT DEEPER!!

If she would have just said I was driving and got sleepy and saw this as a safe place to pull over and take a nap instead of wrecking. She had La. license. Why did they need 4 cops on the scene? If I am the chief or the mayor I am going to ask some hard questions. To protect and serve is their job.

Jessica skated on a speeding ticket
I have been very lucky, fortunate, whatever you want to call it in regards to speeding tickets. I've been pulled over 5 times and have only been given one ticket. That was a speed trap, but I digress. I deserved that ticket. I probably deserved all of them, but the cops were being nice I guess. But I was going to be ....ed if I got a ticket going 42 mph. Plus the town's yearly donations we make to them would have ceased.
