I sat and watched Bama run up and down the field at will on Kentucky. But each time they showed Coach Shula on the sideline, he looked like a deer caught in the headlights and showed no emotion at all. Even when up by four TD's he looked like he didn't have a clue and was not turning cartwheels or high-fiving or smoking a big cigar.
 
Are you serious? My God man what are you looking for? Just because Mike does not run around screaming like Nutt does not mean he is lost or not in control. Get a grip. RTR
 
I know you are joking but I really do appreciate Coach Shula's calm demeanor on the sidelines. Cool Coach Shula sure did contrast with UK's Coach Brooks and his angry faces and gestures.

Yeah, I like that 'poker face' look too. Most of the time you can't tell what he is thinking. I prefer calm to tantrums. Don't get me started on Coach Kines, LOL
 
He seemed more emotional than in previous games this season, but as long as he wins who cares.

His father Don seemed more excited than him though.
Did anyone recognize the gentleman on Don Shula's left?
 
I said this last week, too. I really do not remember Coach Bryant ever running up and down the sidelines actin' a fool. Maybe my memory is faulty but he remains in my head the ultimate picture of calm and collected. Why would we want a jerk or a nutball instead? Does that mean more commitment? I"m not so sure of the correlation.
 
If you spend time celebrating when you should be coaching, you may end up failing to call a time out on the opponents 4th and 1 until 19 seconds have already ticked off the clock.

I noticed Shula getting his point across a few times today. Once, I saw him telling Anthony Madison, "STAY WITH HIM! STAY WITH HIM!."

We see what the camras pick up and what the director decides to show.
 
I also like a coach who is emotional and shows it on the sideline.Bill Parcels,Jimmy Johnson,Nick Saban,Lou Holtz,Pete Caroll are real emotional on the side line.All these guys have won championships.Even Mike Ditka.I remember a monday night game when the Bears were plaing like crap he benched his offensive coordinator and started calling the plays his self.He willed the Bears to a win that night.The only coach I cant think of right off hand who was calm all the time was Bill Walsh of the Niners and The Patriots coach.It just seems like,to me anyway,that the coaches who are emotional do better.

criticizing his dress code... :) I remember all the interminable discussions about Dubose's dress. No one really wanted to say that the real problem was his belly, which could have made anything at all look obscene. Then there was that clapping, when the other team just ran an int back for a TD. No, I think I'll take Shula...

Oh for the love of PETE........

(Whoever Pete is....) - Whether or not a coach stays in control or not doesn't mean he's going to win or lose.....This is one of few games we've seen on TV, rather than being there - so it's pretty cool because you do actually DO get to see faces, etc up close on TV. I'm just OS PROUD that Mike is a private person, that he has so much class to the point that he can control his emotions, & that he does NOT disclose certain things - to INCLUDE emotion or public discipline, etc etc. We all have heard what goes on at practices though, & meetings, when things weren't done right...And it's not pretty - Those guys know the score on their coach & trust me - they have a BIG-TIME respect for him!

GOSH - Even I, blonde as I am, know the original post of this thread was meant to be humor - OMIGOSH - it was meant to be FUNNY! We just won a game that we needed BADLY to win - we need to be CELEBRATING!!!!!! (And congratulating a team & coaches too!)

ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!!!!

Exactly! I like a coach who is cool on the sidelines I don't want someone who will make a fool of himself like Brooks, or Nutt or Fillmore does by yelling especially when the camera's are rolling on not very nice words(i.e. Bobby Cox) and making non-appealing faces. Coach Shula is waaaaaaayyyyyyy to cute and classy to do that and I'm proud of it!!!!! Yes. Coach may loose his cool sometimes but if you say you've never lost your cool I'd call you a liar, but either way I'm still proud because he IS the Coach at The University of ALABAMA!!!!!

Shula does not need to run around yelling and screaming, but I do wish he would get on the refs more. Stallings used to get on the refs hard when they made a bad call against Bama, and it always used to help in the rest of the game. I also would like to see Shula get on the players more when they make mistakes. I keep seeing the same guys making the same mistakes, and that comes from Shula not getting on the players hard enough the first time they make a mistake.
