Weather thread, Part III

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

if you see any problems - please post them in the Troubleshooting board!

Was watching a weather forecast segment last night and the reporter said we have had 14 heat advisories so far this year - and the average per year is only 1.
The NWS updated their definitions in March of this year. I recall hearing about the changes but cannot find how they altered the warnings.

IOW, without looking at previous years I've no idea if it's actually that much warmer or not.

AI says that 2024 was the warmest year on record...that 2025 is shaping up to be the 3rd warmest, with 2023 in 2nd. I know it has been tremendously hot here, but a lot of rain the past couple of weeks has really cooled our temps.

Hard to believe because we've had some dang hot summers prior to this year - that's for sure!

The surf from Erin is supposed to hit us starting Tuesday so will post some photos....right now it's as flat as an ironing board....

I remember a summer in the late 80s with no AC. It was miserable. Everytime mom went to the store, we all went, just so we could cool off. We also bought a season pass to Springvalley Beach in Blountsville. I think we went every weekend

It has been remarkably cool and wet in the Shenandoah Valley. Right now it is 74 and there are no days in the long-range forecast over 82. With a few exceptions, it has been like that most of the summer. (I realize it is one locale and one summer).
The corn is about ten-twelve feet tall. and still green.
My cotton crop is doing okay.

Saw where they were predicting up to 14’ waves for your area due to Erin!

If that happens I'm pretty sure we will see some considerable erosion along the dunes. This is the beach approach closest to my house full of water from high tide earlier this morning.

But it's still a beautiful day out and I enjoyed a nice relaxing bike ride. You can see the surf has come up a bit here......ahem.......over there at the left! ;)

Nothing special to report on the wave action here. I guess when Erin weakened it impacted our wave size a bit. Maybe when the swell starts coming in from the North it will clean up a bit and become more organized. Right now it's mushy and not all that big...lol....

I won't have flooding problems at my house because it sits up on top of a dune ridge. My garage is at street level but on the side street, which is higher than the main road.

We did have some flooding at my late Mom's house on the mainland but it was sold earlier this year so no more concerns there.

That said.....the ignorance, utter stupidity, and downright irresponsibility of our local officials who are supposed to be in charge of maintaining storm water runoff is beyond acceptable.

We had a heck of a rain storm last night. No hurricane - just a rain storm. And certain areas are suffering flood damage from it. Nothing is being done.

As I have previously reported a few local governments have at least put a temporary moratorium on new development. But eventually we know that those development dollars will over rule public safety.

This feels like the government is being run by Billy Napier and the citizens here are all Gators fans......

BTW, she is standing 1 mile from my house...

New Smyrna Beach Flooding
Good morning, New Smyrna Beach residents. Tonight, Tuesday September 9, 2025, your city commission will vote on whether or not to join the coalition for lawsuit opposing SB 180. The bad bill stopped comprehensive plan and land development code changes, which impact stormwater. You are all suffering. Please tell your elected officials to join the coalition for the lawsuit. Also, they need to send a letter supporting the county amendments to the bill. Edgewater and Deltona voted to join. It is your turn to unite in effort. 6:30 p.m. New Smyrna Beach City Hall. Let's go NSB!
