REALLY kick butt in remaining games, leaving NO DOUBT as to which is the best team, probably not a problem.
Anything else, problem............

Danny was actually pretty fair on Mike and Mike this morning. He said that he had jumped on the Bama bandwagon after the UF game but then because of our road struggles has cooled on us. He said that if we win at LSU that Bama has the clearest path to the SECCG with MSU and AU at BDS. Of course Mike Golic (former ND player and alumni) spent the entire time talking about how it was an injustice that ND was ranked #10. He said he didn't understand why ND was behind Michigan State. Danny pointed out that Michigan State had beaten #15 Nebraska and that ND best victory at this point is over Stanford..

win out, not a problem.
lose a game, problem...............
Yep. Who cares where we are now or if we should be higher? If we lose, it is a moot point anyway, so hypothetical games serve no point other than using bandwidth at this stage.

i am glad the committee put sec teams so highly. If they continue to use the logic of best 4, I will be content because if we win out, we will be top 4. We can't control if they change their minds, but win out against one of the tougher schedules left and if we get left out, then we can start gnashing teeth and slamming milk jugs in frustration. Until we win out, a midseason poll is about as useful as a screen door on a submarine.

As I understand the new college football, the Selection Committee determines the 4 teams that will participate in the NC Playoff. The AP and Coaches Poll no longer are used to determine these 4 teams; so those polls are meaningless and will in time be disbanded.

It looks as though the committee's first poll recognizes the strength of the SEC West, but knows that at least 2 possibly 3 of those teams will not be in the final 4 at season's end since they all play each other starting this weekend. Meaning, auburn or Ole Miss will be eliminated Saturday night.

My personal assessment is we will lose at least 1 possibly 2 of our remaining games, and IMO that is no cause for alarm when you consider the injuries we have had and the fact that both OM and MSU have once in a decade team. It has now become a 3 game season in the SEC West and IMO only 1 team will make it out to reach the Final 4.

Oregon has a better overall body of work right now at this moment than Alabama. Our best win is West Virginia. Florida and Texas A&M do not look like better wins simply because they're not that good. I knew some Alabama fans were going to freak out over this.

If Alabama takes care of business in November and in the SECCG, then it won't matter what the Week 1 CFP rankings are. They even said themselves that next week's rankings start on a clean sheet, and they expect them to change week-to-week.

Chill out people.

As a reminder for new posters, we have a policy against implied profanity (using symbols or abbreviations to bypass the filter) as well as 'ignorant sparring' - continued posts arguing with others once your point has been clearly made.

I think the "Injustice to Notre Dame" occurs because the Committee seems to only value the fact that FSU is the defending champ and is undefeated. Notre Dame may be a "quality win" for FSU, but it's not a "quality loss" for Notre Dame from an ACC team.

Honestly, I think the committee got this pretty much right. All biases and favoritism aside, I might want to adjust a team up or down a spot here & there but I can't really make any serious complaints. Teams are pretty much where they ought to be, IMHO, and and most have the opportunity to win their way in.

Where does everyone think the loser of Miss vs AU will drop? Nebraska is the first ranked team with 2 loses at #15. Does the loser this weekend fall to 13-14? Do they have any shot at staying in the top 10?

I personally see them falling to the 12-13 range.

Yes, and I think the committee is playing this perfectly because they are demonstrating to SEC fans that they respect our league, but they also know that these teams all play each other and will take care of the issue themselves. Either AU or Ole Miss will be gone after Saturday. We still play State and AU, etc., etc. I'm guessing there will only be one SEC team in the final four when all is said and done unless UGA wins out and beats an undefeated State in the SECCG. Then, we might get two. It will be fun to watch, especially if we win out and get there.

Disagree. This is not smack talk, but A&M is garbage compared to Michigan State. Our signature win is more significant so far. Obviously you have several chances left ahead of you to get some significant wins.
Using your prior "logic"...cough, cough:

Which 9-3 team beat Michigan State 49-7 in 2011? Yeah, Michigan State is quite the "signature win" for the ducks.

Nebraska does not have 2 losses. They are 7-1 with their sole loss being @ Michigan State (22-27). They will most likely win out and finish 11-1. They have Purdue, @ Wisconsin, Minnesota, & @ Iowa remaining.

The only team that I disagree with is Oregon. Their loss is to Arizona at home vs. Bama's loss to Ole Miss on the road.

I am happy with the rankings. Win and we are in. If we win out, we don't have to worry about Michigan St.

Every SEC team that has 1 or fewer losses after the SECCG will be in the playoffs. And the committee showed that with their rankings last night. But keep in mind that it will be a maximum of 2 teams that will have either 1 or 0 losses due to the fact that they play each other.

And Oregon would definitely be the 4th team if they won out. They control their destiny too.

Ive gone from wow to oh no in a matter of minutes. I was happy it was multiple one losss SEC teams in there, but when I saw Ole Miss in at 4 I was oh no. The problem now is that we absolutly need ole Miss to lose to guarentee a seat because Oregon is ahead of us, TCU is on our tail, and both Big 10 teams are in striking distance. but the most alarming thing is Arizona at 12. We need Auburn to win to nulify Ole Miss. We need a chance for the SEC We need Thunder dome....
We win out, it doesn't matter what Ole Miss do...we will be in.

Supposedly, "quality wins" weighed more than "quality losses". Barn beating KS looks good "for now", but they go to WVU, TCU and Baylor, and they lose two of those three IMO. So things could theoretically change week by week, based on what was a quality win one week may not look that good the next week. Mid November, there will be 6, maybe 8 teams who have a shot at the final four; who those will be is still very much up in the air.

Just in case anyone needs a Cliff's notes version of this thread it is this:

Ole Miss lost to a two loss #21 team and there is no way they beat Bama on Saturday.
