What does dave rader exactly do??

Coach Rader...

is an offensive consultant with input into the game plan and during the game. He is also the co-QB coach with CMS. He doesn't call the plays on the field. CMS does. This is an arrangement which is far from unique in college FB or, for that matter, in the NFL. Paul Brown, first head coach and founder of the Cleveland Browns, was the first well-known practitioner of this system. A better-known, closer, proponent was SOS.

Haven't you read anything posted on here? He calls bad plays. You really need to read what some of these experts on here post. because of all those bad plays that he calls we need to fire him.well thats what all the experts say any way.

I don't think it was a dumb question. I've been coming to this site for a long time and still thought the Offensive Coordinator called the plays. Maybe he should. Thanks for clearing this up TIDE-HSV.

I'm not a coach and am not paid to give Shula advice. But i am a fan and do wonder about some things. I understand that our offense has pretty much been having to play with one hand (or both?) tied behind it's back, but am i wrong in thinking that there are cases where it could have been a bit more creative?

There had to be some high percentage pass play we could have been trying this season that might take pressure off the running game. Something Pennington would have a better chance of completing and forcing the defense to loosen up. Could we not snap directly to the back out of the shotgun? How about dump it off to a back or TE? Slants and crossing patterns seemed to be working. Perhaps run a shovel pass once in awhile? I hate flea-flicker plays in most cases, but ours was a special case. A half-back pass couldnt have been much worse than Pennington tossing another int. Yeah, we might turn the ball over....and it also might rain tomorow too. But ya gotta do something other than run it between the tackles against a very solid defense who has put 8 or 9 men in the box.

I thought our QB change (Was it Prothro?) for the play that sealed the win over MSU was very good! I know ya cant do that all the time, but c'mon....running it between the tackles over and over?

Perhaps Shula will make some changes with the play-calling next season as he finds more weapons to work with. And no...i do not think "we" need to fire Mike Shula. (As if 'We' had any say in the matter).

Alabama's offense, despite an incredible amount of injuries sprinkled throughout, has steadily improved despite the limitations of each new version that has been put on the field. The improvement has been in all areas across the board.

This is the job of Dave Rader.

And Coach Shula, who didn't fire Coach Kines last year despite all the calls for his head from uninformed fans, has already said he won't be making any changes to his staff this offseason, either.

I expect with a healthy backfield, next year all of you questioning Rader or calling for his head will be just as humbled as all of those who were calling for Kines's head last season.

Just think how much different the outcome of this season would have been if we weren't playing with an entire offensive backfield with nothing but 3rd stringers...

Our Sooner friends, who're much more familiar with CDR than we are spoke very highly of him when he was hired. I trust their judgement. We just gotta wait until we have a full arsenal to judge him or CMS. It's kinda like we're playing 7 card stud with only 4 cards.

You also need to realize that our 3rd and 4th stringers probably don't know the offense very well.

Even if they "know" the plays, the most likely haven't practiced executing them.

Think about it...
