Seriously what happened? How do we go from dominating a team to losing?

It seems to me we went into an offensive shell after the half. What about defense though?

It seems like we gave this game away. We were killing them. Other than the turnovers, how did our offense do so bad in thesecpnd half?

Real discussion only please...

please dont take this as a flame but it's simple. players didnt execute. Barron gave up 2 big plays that led to TD's, Richardson dropped a TD pass where we only get 3 points.. Ingram loses a fumble. execution dropped off by a mile in the 2nd half. and it's sad because our front 7 played absolutely lights out

We made some plays and the barn made some plays.

We forget the barn gave us a wide open TD to JJ. Also Fairly got a dumb penalty that led to another TD.

The barn made a 4th and 3 from the 50. The barn made adjustments and stopped our offense in the 2nd half.

We drop a TD pass and fumbled twice inside the 20.

The barn made more plays than us when it counted.

ps: They also did it with several players they bought and it will cost them dearly down the road.

I hear you all about the easy plays that we gave up. It just seems that we had a phenominal game plan in the 1st quarter. Then for some reason we went away from it. Why in the world did we go away from all of the misdirection that was working in the 1st quarter?

Missed opportunities. Period.

Shoulda been 42-7 in the first half...or worse.

Two fumbles and 2 FG when you have the ball in the red zone will get you beat most of the time, especially when you play an explosive offense.

Gotta take advantage of opportunities.

I've seen people on various forums call out the coaches for the second half, but to me it wouldn't have been an issue if not for the points we left on the field in the first half. At least 10 points.

That's true, but we did miss those opportunities. The fact is the playcalling went vanilla and predictable after halftime. Maybe they put too much faith in the defense, but there were no misdirection plays in 2nd half. We got conservative against a team that we could afford to do that against. We gave a heck of an effort, but I would have rather lost going all out than having lost going into a shell.

Well, there are a lot of factors, but one glaring thing is that we have a QB that requires a lot of time and an O-line that can't give it to him. The result is that we can't stretch a defense vertically and once they realize that they only have to defend 8-10 yards deep, our offense kinda gets no dimensional.

The fire was not there the second half. Things that were easy to do the first half were impossible the second half.

you have to be consistent.:biga:

They adjusted well...we didn't
I think it's more on the players than coaches. A coach doesn't fumble twice in the red zone or drop a wide open pass or bust a coverage twice.

What happened was we left points on the board in the first half; busted a couple assignments on D and didn't have that killer mental toughness to put the barn away in the first half.

You can't expect to totally shut down an explosive offense like the Barn has for 60 minutes. We needed the intensity we had for nearly 2 quarters for the entire game. We made mistakes, and they were costly, but we could have overcome those with some creative play calling in the second half. Our D did as well as any team in the SEC has done at shutting Newton down. In fact, our D gave him more fits than LSU did. We just didn't do it on offense. We left at least 1 TD on the field. That's what happened. You don't shut Auburn down this year, you just slow them down. We did that. We didn't execute on offense. That's all it was. I blame McElwain's play calling in the second half, as well as some untimely fumbles.

It was the same story that we have seen from this team all year. They have yet to play a complete game. You can't get away with playing inconsistent football in the SEC. We are 9-3, and two of our losses have been by a total of four points. We were close to having another great year this year, but football is a game of inches, and close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. We still have a chance to win ten games with the bowl game, so that is still a pretty solid season.

Well,
The way i see it , Mcelwayne (or ever how you spell it) must be as aggressive up-24-0 or down 24-0. Hell he has gone in a shell the last 2 time in big games with big leads (TEXAS) (AUBURN) But this one cost us. DON'T take your foot off the gas! drive it till it blows!!!!!!

Crucial breakdowns in the redzone late on several early possessions/leaving points on the field in the first half really cost our team...dropped passes, subsitution problems/penalties at crucial times, bad spots, qb holding the ball to long, oline breakdowns not giving qb enough time late in the game, and too conservative playcalling in the second half, just to name a few.

Having said all that this game was much closer than I thought it would be...they (AU) had a bad/mediocre first half with lots of mistakes but the barn just outplayed us in the end and found a way to win.
