Question: what happened to special run packages?

I was wondering why we don't used the wildcat or the big defensive linemen in the backfield any more? I guess I can kinda see why we don't use the wildcat seeing as how we probably had a better chance of being successful with AJ under center but seems like having Cody or Jesse Williams as a blocker in short yard situations was a wrinkle that paid off more times than not.

Alabama had one of the best offenses in college football this year. Not sure that they needed gimmick plays this season.

You really need a beast at Wildcat. The defense knows what's coming, so you have to have someone who can impose their will on them. I don't think TJ or Drake are there yet. If Fowler/Nudie was a little bit quicker, then one could make an argument. Now, having a huge blocking back could be do-able. I bet Henderson wouldn't mind shoving a few people around like Jesse or Cody did.

Fair - The Alabama version this year used Fowler. It only failed you in one game.

I am drawing a brain vacuum (not unususal these days) on who Henderson is. I could see a guy like Matt Elam doing it, though.

We did move brandon greene to TE from OT to give us a big body package. We used it pretty often, but it didn't get as much attention as years past since the extra big body wasn't a key player from elsewhere.
