IF (and that's a big IF at this point) Alabama beats LSU this weekend, I don't want to hear what a huge win it is for Alabama and for Gottfried. Given the talent levels at the two schools and the "lay of the land," Alabama should spank LSU to the tune of an Auburn repeat. In other words, Alabama should win going away.

IF Alabama does win, then I'm sure it will fuel the SID to distribute more information. IF Alabama loses this game, all h-e-double hockey sticks will break out.

The LSU game will be a good one for Alabama (IMO) IF Alabama wins AND we see improvement in the areas we all have been discussing AND Alabama plays like a team rather than a bunch of individuals. THAT would be an uplifting performance.

I think we have seen improvement in the last 2 games and I agree we have more talent than LSU and should win. That being said it's not fair to expect 50% from three so I would be very surprised if we spank them like we did Auburn.

We have seen improvement in effort level. We have not seen much improvement in offensive execution, shot selection, coaching adjustments, etc. Now that the effort's there, the next step is to improve some of those areas.

Alabama should handle LSU easily. If Alabama plays street ball and wins, it's no real victory.

I'm sorry I thought the following were examples of coaching adjustments:

1-2-2 zone
4 guard/1 post line-up almost exclusively
Very little high post
5 out motion against Auburn with 5 guards
Increased minutes for S. Hillman
MT playing at the 3 and 4 against UT for the first time
Changes to the press break

I think it's awfully arrogant of you to start a thread by teling other members what you don't want to hear. You can never tell what's going to happen during the course of a game or how it will play out. There can be many reasons for the final score but those don't show up on the scoreboards.
But if you truly don't want to hear other member's opinions, you won't be very happy here at TideFans. :chillpill:

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it its due consideration.

Some of those have worked and others haven't. Some of your examples are linked (ex: 4 guard lineup and more minutes for Hillman). None of these is a good long-term adjustment. Other coaches will figure them out and neutralize them. The kinds of adjustments that have been discussed for the past few weeks are fundamental adjustments, like help defense in man situations, ball security, etc. BTW, there's nothing wrong with a high post offense if it's executed. I understand that folks don't want to see it, since it's not exciting, but the offense itself is sound. Now, whether or not we have the players to run it effectively is another question.

I think he was starting a coversation about how the team is progressing or not. We should call a spade a spade. If we win today over a less talented team and it's streetball, we really haven't seen any progression.

I do wonder why you wanted to start controversy at the drop of a hat. Are you a reporter for the Bham News? If you want to start a lot of controversy then "you won't be very happy here at TideFans" either. That's just my opinion.

Well....huge win for Alabama and Mark Gottfried. There I said it.
Okay, that'll be enough of that glass half full talk.;)

Just to bring everyone down again after that optimistic post.....At 2-5 we're still the only SEC team to have already played 5 home games. :pDT_sharm:

No where did I say the adjustments listed were independent or that they were all effective.

First, There isn't enough money for me to become a reporter. So no, I"m not a reporter or a member of any media outlet, and I canceled my subscription to the B'ham Snooze some time ago. Second, I don't think it's controversial to protest the wanton suppression of differing opinions.
In today's game we won at home against a team we were supposed to beat. Play was consistent throughout the game on both offense and defense. That shows some progress, however slight that progress might be. However four of the next five games are on the road, and anything can happen. We shall see what we shall see.

hey guess what...... this is a huge win for alabama and mg. (all jokes aside) this is a huge win for the team. can you imagine what would have happened if we lost to a poor lsu at home in a game where (you are correct) the talent level is way different. that within itself (under that much pressure) is what makes it a huge win.

Although those adjustments listed above have turned out to be mostly good, I thonk a lot of us are wondering what took so long. Defense is still poor at best; some of the worst "fundamentals" in attempting to play man defense I have ever seen. Also, the 1-2-2, while a good idea, allowed the ball to get in to the free-throw line entirely too easily on Saturday.

I sat one section over from Elizabeth Gottfried Saturday, and I am starting to think Mark may want he on the bench with him. She may be a better coach.

The biggest thing that bothers me on defense when we play M2M is that we don't play the passing lanes or any sort of ball denial. Now it could be because we are slower afoot than the other teams, but in that case why play M2M?

Just a side note:

Playing "ball-you-man" defense requires a good bit more work than playing "man-you-basket" defense. Besides footspeed, "ball-you-man" also requires quite a bit more anticipation, concentration, and court vision.

So, I conclude that we don't play "ball-you-man" because we lack these characteristics and/or haven't been willing to work at it.
