Sorry for lousy memory . .

Did both of these 2008 recruits go juco, or did one go the prep school route?

Thanks.
Both are currently enrolled in East Mississippi Junior College.

As for updates, I don't really think there are any at this point. They are there trying to become academically eligible, and until they get a semester or two into the process we won't really know anything of any real substance.

Reportedly they are both performing well in JUCO. After they graduate JUCO they are both expected to be part of the 2010 class. Of course they will have to be recruited all over again but from what I am hearing Bama is staying in close contact with them.

As I understand it, JC is much less expensive than prep school and yes they will have 3 years to play 2 when they graduate.

I don't know the exact details but the prospects that are close to academically qualifying can go to Prep school and make it in to college after a year. Prospects with a little more work to do usually will go to JUCO to get academically qualified. A good case in point is Kerry Murphy who probably should have went the JUCO route rather than Prep school.

Well with Lewis and with Murphy for that matter...I thought it was more to do with ACTs than school grades, which would mean that Prep wasn't a bad choice for Kerry, he just needed to study for that test.

If you don't make the grades at Hargrave they'll boot you

Well like I said I don't know the details but it would appear that with Kerry Murphy having to take additional course after Prep school that maybe JUCO would have been a better choice. Now if Prep school and two additional courses get him accepted at Alabama with an extra year to play then I guess the Prep school route was best for him. My point is if the signees that go to JUCO thought that they could have gotten academically qualified by going to the Prep school route they probably would have.

The coach at East Mississippi CC was quoted as saying on a premium site that Bolton will redshirt next year giving him three years to play at Alabama.

He was quoted as saying a decision on redshirting Lewis has not been made at this time.

Bolton had 65 tackles, 11 tackles for losses and 1 1/2 sacks in 10 games playing LB.

Lewis has 53 tackles, 4 tackles for losses and 1 1/2 sacks.

The junior college route is much cheaper than the prep school route. Prep schools can get very expensive, but on the other hand junior colleges are generally dirt cheap.

I don't think the financial aspect of it is that big of a factor for most prospects, though, at least not the ones signing with SEC schools. Those guys are good enough to get scholarships to both types of institutions, so that helps things a lot.

For top prospects, as Surf mentioned, the distinguishing factor is generally their academic situation. If a person is just a point or two away from qualifying on the ACT, then they usually go the prep school route, but if it's a more dire situation, they go the JUCO route.

With that said, though, I still don't know why Lewis went to junior college. He actually made the test score needed to qualify, but the NCAA threw it out. He would have been the perfect case for a person to go to prep school and get things in order, but he chose to go the JUCO route. The only possible thing I can think of is that since his situation developed so late, perhaps the prep schools were out of scholarships and he could not afford to pay out of his own pocket? Either way, I still don't understand that one.
