What is your favorite piece of Bama Memorabilia? And your most unusual?

I was sitting in my Crimson Colored office staring at my Autographed George Teague and Robert Horry Photos on each side of my favorite Bama Memorabilia, my 8x10 color photo of me and Coach Bryant when I was 9 years old, signed by Coach......"Byron, Best of Luck, Nice Meeting You, Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant"....

I was also thinking about some of my more unusual pieces.....

1. An autographed resume of EJ Junior, after he got fired from the Dolphins as a Linebackers Coach.....it's cool to see a line on a resume that says; "Work History - NFL Linebacker, St Louis Cardinals, St Louis, Missouri".......

and....

2. A Mint Condition 78rpm of "Yea Alabama" on Scott Records by the Alabama Cavaliers

I have a statue of Coach Bryant leaning against the goal post. Not sure what exactly its made out of (some sort of metal), but its about a foot and a half tall, and sits on my entertainment center.

I'm not sure you would call it unusual, but its the only one I've seen like it.

My favorite is a Time Magazine with Coach Byrant on the front. Its autographed. My most interesting isn't necessarily football related, but I have a brick from the original Houndstooth after it was torn down.

I have a 24"X36" portrait of Coach Bryant with about 6 different head shots, this is favorite, its the first thing you see when you walk into our den. The most unusual is a 8" pewter plate with his picture engraved in the middle of the plate. It has all his national and sec championships engraved also. I've been roaming ebay and other places for years and this is the only one I've seen.

Ps- Do some of ya'll realize how fortunate you are to be smack dab in the middle of all this, I mean living in Alabama, especially in and around T-Town. Some of you seeing Coach Bryant in person. I've lived in Florida all of my 56 years. It took me 54 years to get BDS.

Untorn ticket from the Iron Bowl in which Coach won his 315th.

The then-future mrs. exiled & I both forgot our tix when we left TTown for Legion Field. My roomie saw mine & brought it to me @ the pregame gathering @ a friend's home. We bought her a ticket outside the stadium for face value from a very nice (or clueless, whichever) gentleman. Thus, I have our two stubs, plus the untorn one.

Of course, my fave Bama memorabilia are the degrees mrs. exiled & I earned from the Capstone...

(I was gonna say that she's my fave, but methinks she might object to being referred to as "memorabilia"...)

1. Copy of The Bear, co-written with John Underwood, autographed by Coach to me using my name.

1A. A large styrofoam cup filled with dirt from Bryant Denny, certified on the cup as such by a long-time member of the Athletic Department. Not telling the name, but you'd recognize it.

2. A football autographed by Nick Saban

3. A football autographed by Lee Roy Jordan.

4. A football autographed by several stars from the early and mid-90s.

I forgot about this one earlier, but I have to give the back story first:

One of my aunts friends was at a Bama game, in what I'm guessing is back in the 60s. A photographer dropped a roll of film and the lady picked it up and put it in her purse not thinking about it much after that. The story goes that she (or someone) found it undeveloped in a closet a couple of years ago, and decided to see what was on the roll of film. Come to find out it was nothing but pictures of Coach Bryant.

My aunt got some copies of the pictures and framed about 7 of them and gave them to me for christmas last year. To my knoweldge they are pretty unique, as I know of only a few people that have copies of them, but I could be wrong.

Maybe one day, when I get around to it, I'll see if somebody on here can date them for me.

My most prized piece of Memorabilia is a Century Of Champions program from the A-Day game that is signed by most of the 92-93 team. A buddy of mine was on the team and he got it signed for me.

Unusual item would have to be a knife that I have that has Alabama "Clemson" Tide printed on the case.
I also have a signed Wimp Sanderson photo that he signed one week before he left the university(sort to say).

My most unusual would be a picture of the sky above Bryant-Denny....let me explain:

I was sports editor for the Corrolla during my time at the Capstone...i rarely used my press passes bc i wanted to sit in the student section instead of the pressbox. I did however use a field pass for the A-Day game that Price coached....

I forget who the running back was, but a toss sweep came my way, and I was busy trying to get a picture of the defensive backfield for some reason....needless to say, Antwan Odom stretched the play out and ran the running back right into me, knocking my camera around...when I ran the film, it was a blurry picture of the skylline of Bryant Denny...I ran into Antwan later and got him to sign it "Best hit a cameraman ever took" with his name on it...I was not credited with a tackle in the official stats :biggrin:

Fav- A Shaun Alexander signed football; with his famous bible notation! AND since I live in Dallas many, many years ago I drove to Coach Stallings ranch and left a pic of my son and daughter in their Bama gear- CStallings signed the pic and it was mailed back to me!

Most unusual- Not really unusual; BUT supersticious- years ago while visiting Coach Byrant's grave I removed a chestnut or buckeye (not sure which) that had fallen from the trees... this was laying right in front of Coach Bryant's grave... I to this day; have it in my office and always "talk" to it b4 a game!

Mike Leach had a similar story. When he was trying to transition from his career as an attorney to coach, he sent out letters to just about every major program asking if he could join their staff. Of course, most rejected him. However, the head coach of the program normally signed the letters. So, Mike Leach says he has "Damn near every Division I coach's autograph in a cardboard box in the basement."

Oh Memorbilia...

Right now I'm looking at a Bear Bryant commemorative Golden Flake Chip tin from 1981. Not old or rare, but kind of cool.

I still have one too. I also have an autographed Coach Fran picture. I was going to get rid of it, but I kept it for some reason.

I'd keep it. I almost got my hands on a Mike Shula autographed football a few months ago but the girl ended up not wanting to give it away. That bad parts of our past are still a part of our past, no matter how much we want to forget them. If nothing else, they serve as a pretty good reminder of how far we've come the last few years.

Most prized: An autographed sketch of Bear Bryant. It features 6 different pictures of him at various stages in his career and they all surround a football. My dad used to date a girl that lived next door to Bryant so she got it autographed "Best wishes to Robby, Paul Bryant."

Important to me: When I was 10 years old (1994) Alabama played Mississippi State in Starkville and they were practicing on the Columbus High School field the day before. (still not sure why) As soon as my dad heard about it, he scooped me up early from school and headed to the field. The only football in the house we had to get signed was something my mom had won as a door prize: A Rocky Felker autographed football! lol. So we went to practice and afterwards I got Coach Stallings and Jay Barker to sign it for me. I remember Coach Stallings was ribbing me for having something signed by Felker and I apologized profusely and tried to explain why. He just laughed and turned and said something to my dad. Barker signed the ball and put a Bible verse underneath his name. He was Tim Tebow before Tim Tebow was Tim Tebow.

Most unique: We snuck on the field last year after one of the games and the stadium had completely cleared out. We walked the sidelines and I found a couple of old chin straps. Don't know why I thought they'd be neat to have, but I did and now I have a couple.
