What to do before the game? Advice needed.

I'm taking my wife to the first game with just the two of us this weekend. She's been to only one other game (UT 05) and that was with my parents and they wanted to be as "efficient" with time as possible. Translation: they wanted to get there as close to kickoff as possible. However, this year, I want to get there early in the afternoon.

Being this is our first time to go with just us and with the loads of time we will have on campus, where should we go? I'm sure I'll walk her around to all the places on campus, hang out in the quad, and check out GameDay, but what is there to do to blow off lots of time. Alcohol consumption will be limited, as I will still have to drive home after the game, but is there somewhere on campus (sports bar?) where we could just go and watch some games and relax before the kickoff? I saw they had a huge TV set up outside last time, but it was packed and I'm not sure if it would even be worth it by the time we get there.

What are your suggestions?

Totally forgot about that. I've been there a couple of times and it is great, she will love that. Thanks lafella.

Still open to more suggestions, specifically, somewhere to eat on campus.

I'll defer to the younger set for advice on bars. Suffice it to say the ones on the strip will be full to the gills.

If you have a lot of time to kill there's lots within walking distance. If she's never seen the Bryant Museum it's a good way to get her up to speed on the tradition. If she likes architecture, you might go by the President's mansion and the Gorgas house for some nice examples of antebellum construction as well as the buildings across the street from the library, which are beautiful and often overlooked. If she has a sense of history, you can show her the mound on the Quad, the outline of the first library in front of the library steps and tell her the story of the federal troops burning the campus (uh, no offense intended to troops currently serving in that force). If it's football history, show her the hand and footprints in cement at Denny Chimes. If she needs to shop for Bama paraphenalia, you can walk over to Ferguson, where it's at least air conditioned and go through the Supe store (crowd warning) but the bathrooms are nicer than the portables on the Quad. The fountain out front of Ferguson has gotten to be a popular photo spot. A lot of folks enjoy being on the Quad as the band sections warm up and play before heading over to the stadium. Finally, if she just likes to watch people, sitting on the steps of any of the academic buildings around the Quad a couple of hours before game time is an excellent opportunity to see all kinds of people in a very small space.

Have a good time and Roll Tide. I predict after this trip she'll be hooked for life, if she isn't already.
 
Maybe see if you can go to some of the restaurants to watch other games on the strip or go to Greensboro to some of those bars or restaurants if the others are too packed.

But I'd just chill on the quad and get drunk early and let it wear off by end of the game

I will definitely take her to see all the sites near the stadium. You can't go wrong with a photo in front of Denny Chimes and pic of your favorite players' hands. We actually HAVE to find the bookstore to exchange some jerseys we ordered online too, so that'll probably eat up some time.
 
While I was a student in '91 I drank a pint of southern comfort at my apartment before the game then walked over to the stadium and yelled my fool head off for about 3 hours. We shut Georgia out that year 10-0.

I'm not saying that this will work for you, but I'm 1-0 against Georgia in BDS after drinking a pint of southern comfort. Just something to think about.

Not to insult you but sounds like you might need directions to the Supe Store?

From the Quad, go around the library (Giant building directly across from the Chimes) on the left (east) side as you face it. There is a street called McCorvey Drive. Follow it north to where it ends and keep going past the various planters and what not. When you come to a fountain turn to your right and the Supe Store is right there on the bottom floor of Ferguson Center. Can't miss it.

Also, there are some restaurants upstairs in Ferguson. Not great food, but air conditioned and they usually have games on a big screen tv. Again, I don't recommend the food, but I dare say you've had worse and lately.
 
Come by my house and Ill feed you shots.

After that walk her through campus and by different tailgates. Im sure their will be lots of interesting people.
 
These guys have given some good ideas for sight seeing. Let me throw this in there. If you are coming to ttown on 20-59 south I would HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend taking University Blvd from exit 100. It is much quicker with traffic and such.
 
Get as drunk as u can and still be able 2 walk 2 stadium. But u gotta be under control...and yell as loud as u can when GA. HAS THE BALL AND ESP. ON 3RD DOWN. keep your mouth shut when we have the ball! Lotta folks had problems with that against Ark. PEOPLE!, KEEP YOUR FREAKIN MOUTH SHUT WHEN WE HAVE THE BALL. WE CAUSED AN ILL. PROCEDURE DURING "THE DRIVE" AGAINST ARK. LET THE OFFENSE HEAR THE FREAKIN SNAP COUNT!

Drinking and posting is very bad.

And stop yelling we can hear you just fine.
