What's the crowd like today?

Just the usual crowd who gets more excited when they throw out the t-shirts rather than after we score!!

whats wrong with "mark's madness"...I could rarely even hear them. Living in North Carolina, I see the student sections of ACC schools jumpin up and down and yellin and cheering. I know it is hard to compare the ACC and SEC in the amount of passion for basketball but if "Mark's Madness" is so mad, they need to show it. Any thoughts?

We've had this discussion before here, as a former member of the ORIGINAL Mark's Madness its all about location. Mark has lobbied to get the students moved to courtside, instead the students are stuck in a corner and half of one end of the court. Trust me, if you lined the courtside with Mark's Madness, it would be insanely loud.

Also, what i've always loved about Mark's Madness is the insensitve humor they provide, i noticed whenever Justin Reed screamed like Howard Dean, the students then started screaming just like him. I remember when i was there we picked out the small guard for Ole miss and every time he touched the ball we screamed "Webster! Webster!" from that crappy 80's tv show. We probably should have screamed "Gary Coleman"

Also, as players walked in they had to walk right past us before the game and after halftime, the only coach to ever respond was Nolan Richardson, man was he ****ed at the things we called him

The Madness did have its moments today though. One of Ole Miss' big men could have built a condo development in the lane. The Madness was counting, with each count getting louder. Finally, they got to 10 one time and the baseline ref called 3 seconds on the guy. From that point forward, they started counting "1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, etc."

Sounds like Bama has the same sort of problems I hear about hear in Knoxville with the location of the student section and the unwillingness of the administration to do something about it. It's stupid to have them stuck on one end of the court like that.

Student seating is horrible. You have to get there extra early to get a good seat. That is why alot of students rather watch in on tv. If seating ever gets fixed more student would show up to the games.

are you sure there were 10 thousand? I find that really hard to believe. There were a lot of empty seats, even the ones people were sitting in. What a crappy atmosphere to watch a COLLEGE Bball game!

As a committee member for Mark's Madness for the past two years, I'll ditto the complaint about student seating.

However, we did get a good cheer going today. Towards the end, we came up with: "Hotty toddy...gosh almighty...when's Ole Miss going to beat somebody!?"

Needless to say, that one got a good laugh.

We also got one of their assistants to flip us the bird in an off hand way. At the start and the end of the half, he walked by our section and was "rubbing" his nose with only his middle finger.

Needless to say, we had a good laugh at that one as well.

Seating location does not fly regarding attendance. UNC has the worst student location of any program due to the Dean Dome funding coming from Alumni exclusively...no public funding. The contributors have the seats that ring the court with the exception of one endzone. Yet, students camp out for days for major games and all student tickets are used almost 100% of the time.

It's about tradition...not location!

The crowd was horrible. It just amazes me that we have such a lack of support for basketball. This team deserves better in terms of fan support.

I estimated that about 9,000 people, tops, made it into Coleman, which is really disappointing. Their were a ton of empty seats throughout the entire arena, especially in the student section.

Its sad that so few people are coming out to support UA hoops this year compared to the past 2-3 seasons. If I'm making a 3 hour trip to the game, surely some more people in and around T-Town & B'ham can make it up for a weekend game.

I will be making the long hual over the MSU game. I am willing to bet MSU will bring 1500-2000 fans into Coleman and be louder than our crowd next weekend. The MSU fans that were in Coleman last year were extremely loud.
