I don't understand
Why the University is trying to buy them back. Is it mainly to save embarrassment? Are they making the players who sold them then reimburse the University?
If not, wouldn't that be an unfair compensation in favor of the student-athlete? Would the re-buying of the rings, then placing them in the Custody of the University consititute "rent" being paid to the players, by the original auction winner on Ebay?
I see some NCAA "precedent" here. Rest assured, if these were Univ. of Alabama rings, there would have been some stiff penalties levied against the Univ. Of course, I doubt OUR players would have sold their rings....
