What's your most memorable no. 1 vs no. 2 regular seaon games?

  • Hi Guest, we are working on updating the site servers and software. We're also 'forcing' everyone to read and agree to our site privacy policy and terms of service. There are no significant changes to either of these but the terms page does clarify a few things that are mostly in the legalese. You can just click the checkbox for both and continue using the site as usual! We'll update you more on the site upgrades VERY soon! THANK YOU AS ALWAYS for supporting the site and being an active participant!

One of the most memorable for me was the 1971 game between OK and Neb in Norman, OK. Neb. was top ranked against no.2 Sooners. One of those "Games of the Century", won by Nebraska 35-31. Jack Mildren vs Jerry Tagge of Neb. Great game, unless you were a Sooner fan.

What's yours?

That would be my top one. Johnny Rogers won the Heisman that day with his great offensive showing including his famous punt return. That Nebraska team went to the Orange Bowl and pounded the Tide 38-6.

Regular season? I guess it would have to be the F$U vs ND game in 1993. I really loved the fact that ND had such a huge let-down against Boston College the very next week. Winning these epic games assures nothing.

If I had seen it then probably the 1991 Miami-FSU showdown; I only saw the final play, but I've since seen the replay on Classic, and it was great.

I thought the ND-FSU was somewhat overrated because the Irish had a 2 or 3-td lead in the fourth qtr.

Most other 1 vs 2 are in bowl games, and I was 2 when the UN-OU game in 71 was played.

The most memorable #1 vs #2 game for Bama fans has to be the 1966 Notre Dame-Michigan State game that ended in a tie. Bama was the only team to finish undefeated and untied that season. Bama handily beat Nebraska in a bowl while Notre Dame refused to play in a bowl. Bama was robbed...Notre Dame finished #1. 1966 was Bama's true 13th championship. (not 1941).
