Re: Where thing stand on 1/30

My prediction for signing day will be, drum roll......... Liner, Kamara, Robinson, Thomas, Vanderdoes. I have no clue of what was said during A'Shawn Robinson's in home visit but I just get the feeling he was told he could play on either side of the ball. He has a great chance regardless of playing in his first or second year because of his position. Buckle up this is going to be one of the more exciting NSD! Roll Tide!
Hope you're right!

Wow. Hope you are right. Hope we hear from Reed by the end of this week myself. Then I just think we may land Vandedoes. But I do like your list. I just see Kamara, Liner, Reed and one other.

I don't see Reed at all... He's UF bound.

I say Liner, Kamara, Vanderdoes, hopefully Conner and a surprise

Re: Where thing stand on 1/30

My best guess would be Liner, Kamara, Vanderdoes, Robinson, and maybe Bell or Conner. I'm pretty confident in the first two. It gets a little cloudy after that. I think we have a legit shot with EV. Hopefully, he is blown away this weekend, and we can overcome the distance factor. Latest chatter on Robinson is encouraging. If we don't get him, then maybe we take Reed or Poggi. I think both would jump at the chance.

I don't feel good about Conner or Bell. I've heard Conner favors Alabama, but the South Panola influences may be too much. That will be another one to watch on NSD. I don't think Bell is completely out of the picture, but I would guess Tennessee at this point.

Re: Where thing stand on 1/30

The question about grades won't truly be resolved by Feb. 6, so how will those academic casualties free up spots by next Wednesday? Even though it may free up a spot or 2 by August, it won't help us on NSD.

They just gather as much info as they can and make a decision the day before NSD as to whether or not to sign a guy. They've been a lot more careful with the hard cap. Bad guesses are the reason some of the schools have so many back-counters...

Thanks. I wonder if they will be offered grayshirts if they have substantial academic questions still on Feb 6.

That's possible, if it appears they have real hope of being able to make the grades by then. Of course, prep is available and, as a last resort, JUCO. The difference is that we can longer "sign and place," since that costs us a slot. I don't know if the SEC agreement to accept a scholly is still available or not. We used it to keep OM from poaching a player from us who was a Hargreave this season. It used to be that all players would sign that agreement first and then the NLOI later...

Re: Where thing stand on 1/30

Instead of another "Where we stand" thread, I'll just give my personal update here. My predictions/projections on how we finish as of 4:45 on 2/1/13.

Dee Liner - Reports are that he has cancelled his trip to UGA. If that is true, then it means Alabama is most likely his firm choice. I feel weary on this one, to be honest, but all public signs point to UA.

Antonio Connor - I think we land him. CNS making a trip to South Panola, along with reports he WANTS to come to UA, make me feel good on this one. This also makes me feel better about us not taking Vonn Bell, who ends up at UT.

Alvin Kamara - He had an odd statement a few days ago. When asked about the RB situation at UA, he always said things like "I don't mind competition" and "I plan on coming in and earning playing time" etc... However, when asked about UGA offering Johnathan Ford, he responded "No Comment". I found this weird, considering his vocalness about Alabama... I think we land him.

Eddie Vanderdoes - If he was leaning before he got to T-Town, when he leaves he should be sold. I think this may be one of our biggest instant impact gets (on defense), and I think he has a bright future. I feel good on this one.

Jarran Reed - Two days ago I thought he was UF bound. Yesterday I was unsure. Today I think we get him. Insiders say he is ours if his offer is commitable, and I think it is. Hence, I think we land him.

Others on our board.

Henry Poggi - I think it's a numbers game, and he sticks with UM even though his dad prefers him elsewhere.
Ashawn Robinson - I think we got CLOSE on this one, but I think he stays at UTw.
Vonn Bell - Numbers again, as he gets bumped by Connor sending him to UTe.
Matthew Thomas - FSU is where he'll play.
Reuben Foster - I don't know if he makes it anywhere this year...if he does it will be AU.
Laremy Tunsil - Mississippi is in the drivers seat now, and I assume they stick.

That's it... Things may change within the next 15 minutes, as recruiting is ridiculously too fluid...more so now then ever.

Re: Where thing stand on 1/30

Thanks for the update Matt. I hope you are right; however, I'm still hoping we get Tunsil.

I agree with your Vanderdoes comments. I think he would play a lot for us next year. He is a monster and can play multiple positions.

The Tunsil ship has sailed I believe... We are sitting, from all accounts, a distant third.

Re: Where thing stand on 1/30

Matt, sounds about right. If we miss on Vanderdoes, do not be surprised to see Poggi come on board. With Liner canceling and Reed, this is shaking out pretty good for Bama. Leaves Vanderdoes as the question mark remaining.

I concur here.

Liner
Kamara
Reed
Vanderdoes
Conner

Signing day surprise Robinson and/or Bell, especially with a few that may be academic concerns and not make it in.

Poggi possibly GS.

From what I've heard, the Vs had a really nice visit to ND and Friendly Irish is probably correct that his mom is leaning that way now. However, they're just now seeing Bama up close, so, fingers crossed...

A prediction right now 2-2-2013.

Liner
Kamara
Robinson
EV
Conner
Poggi-Greyshirt

This doesn't seem that far fetched right now, a few days back i would have thought this was crazy talk.

Re: Where thing stand on 1/30

If Saban closes with Liner, Robinson, Connor, Kamara and Eddie V., man. I can hear the air going out of the ballon for all across college football. It would arguably be the highest rated class Saban has signed yet-and that is saying something. Closing with 3 5 stars with what is already on board-my goodness. Certainly is good to be a Bama fan- and yes, the rest of college football will loathe us even more. And I love it.
