Normally in the bowl season I'm hoping the SEC does well.. but if it came down to the National Championship game I simply could not root for -

Tennessee
Auburn
maybe LSU (but that's mostly 'cause of their coach)

I love to see our conference do well 98% of the time...

actually, our coach at the time was Saban, ironic, huh?
When Saban was at LSU I disliked him as much as any coach in college football. When it came time for Bama to hire a coach again I wanted a coach that other coaches did not like. I was tired of having coaches that everyone liked. Mission accomplished. I am glad he is at Bama but I can understand how opposing fans & teams do not like him cause I certainly didn't. I probably didn't like him cause I didn't know much about him. Kinda like Spurrier the more I know about him the more I like him.

Auburn, Tennessee, and Mississippi State. Georgia is close to making the list, it's not easy being a Bama fan here.
Georgia is not close to making the list. It's ON the list, right behind Tenn.
Bulldogs are squat, ugly, and only good for kicking (figuratively speaking of course).

Yeah, the alleged violations occured, IIRC, during the 1998-1999 recruiting season. The other main culprits that brought in the NCAA besides fatty were Spurrier and Sherrill. Tubbs, Nutt and Dinardo just instigated the whole thing simply because they hated Bama.

Spurrier was mad at us because we spanked his butt twice during the 99 season, including a serious beatdown at the SECCG. He wrote a letter to the NCAA infractions committe claiming that Bama was a bunch of cheaters.

Sherrill got into it after the 2000 season because he was snubbed by Mal for the Bama job after Dubose was fired. I beleive he got some of his MSU recruits to sign affadavits or make statements that Bama had offered them and their coaches cash to come play at Bama.

Personally I'm glad Mal froze out Sherrill for the HC job in 2000. We all saw waht happened to him after that season.
Not saying I have perfect memory but I think you have some names wrong. Spurrier? All Spurrier did was call Mike DuBose about a recruiting problem he was having with him (Smiley). Spurrier didn't go behind DuBose's back like the rest did. Sherrill I don't recall getting involved at all. Nutt and his brother did get involved, they even bid on Means. Tubberville was showing off a letter with NCAA letterhead saying Alabama would get the death penalty to recruits but he didn't go to the NCAA. Georgia had a bid in for Albert Means. I also don't recall DiNardo having any involvement. During that time DiNardo had lost control of his LSU team and was trying to save his own neck from a noose. Preseason #3 then went 3-8 with eight consecutive losses kept DiNardo busy.

Where in the world are you getting your information?

The viles and the barners for sure and I'm leaning that way towards LSwho. Their arrogance is getting kinda insufferable since Coach Saban made them relevant again in CFB. They act like winning championships is old hat for them when it's plainly NOT.
I agree Tommy. I'd even go further, I don't believe I would root for any SEC in the NCG. I might not necessarily root against them (depending on the team of course) but I'm certainly not going to root for them either. Why root for them when they certainly wouldn't root for us?

I remember hearing that Spurrier had sent a letter to the NCAA detailing Bama's alleged recruiting violations. I think I heard it on Finebaum, so it very well might not be true.

As for Sherrill is concerned I do remember reading that some freshmen on another SEC team were asked to sign affadavits or make statements claiming that Bama boosters had tried to buy them. I thought it was Sherrill but it has been over 8 years now so it very well could have been Nutt or whoever was at Ole Miss at the time.

I do know for a fact however that Sherrill was extremely angry at Mal and Bama because he was snubbed after Dubose was fired. He definitely had a bone to pick with Mal Moore.

Fullmer was the only one I remember trying to get recruits to dig up dirt on Alabama and report back to him. He was still trying to do it when Eric Locke wanted to transfer from UA to UT.

Sherrill played football at the University for Coach Bryant 1962-1965. Mal Moore was an assistant under Bryant for those two championship seasons. I also know Jackie knew he was carrying too much NCAA baggage to be chosen as DuBose's successor at Alabama.

I'm just trying to clear up some misinformation.

I would not pull for the 'barn or Tenn ever for a NC. It would be hard for me to pull for LSU now just because their fans have acted like such dipwads since the whole Coach Saban and Alabama thing.
As for Fran, I don't hate A&M -just dislike their coach, but I think he'll be on the hotseat anyway after this year if he doesn't win their conference. The natives are getting restless over there.

I'm pretty much in agreement. It all really stems toward recruiting because that crystal ball has has a lot of pull to recruits. #1 would hand down be Auburn since they are our chief in state rival. If they were ever lucky enough to win one, it would give even a seasoned recruiter like Saban problems in head to head battles. Plus, that kind of national exposure would send Barn fans over the edge. #2 would be UT since they have been sneaky getting into North Alabama. #3 would then be LSU. Another NC would pretty much make them the SEC's top team over Florida and give them the stroke to basically get any kid that they want, not that they aren't there already.

Would never, ever-under any circumstances- would I pull for AU or TN to win NC. This year might just have to add LSU to my 'never, ever' list!

I thought the problem that Spurrier had was the recruitment of a LB Travis Carroll (I think that was the players name)? Wasn't there some sort of controversy over Carroll receiving a car or something, and Spurrier was upset about it, especially after Carroll transfered to UF and told him the supposed story?

I think you are correct about the incident with Travis Carroll who played HS football somewhere in or near Jacksonville. Apparently SOS had already had some issues with Dubose's staff recruiting tactics and if memory serves me, the incident with Carroll and a truck or SUV prompted SOS to call Dubose. Although it could have been Justin Smiley and a vehicle that pi ed off SOS enough to call Dubose.

Spurrier questioned the purchase of a new pickup truck for Justin Smiley. The truck was purchased by Justin's mom, she was financially able to make payments on the car and documents proved she did.

Travis Carroll received a high interest loan on a used Jeep Cherokee with over 100,000 miles on it and dented fender. Travis Carrol never made a payment and the car was repoed in Florida where he had transfered. Johannigmier (sp) the NCAA investigator made it out to be a car with only 70,000 and nicer than it really was. He accused Ronnie Cottrell of setting up the deal for Travis to get the car for free.
