Absolutely not. No ACC team that goes 0-2 against the only ranked teams they played has an argument to make the playoffs. There is never going to be a 100% foolproof way of determining who belongs and who doesn't. SMU clearly crapped the bed today and didn't do their argument any favors, but there is certainly an argument of why they belonged. As much as I want to say with certainty that Bama 100% belonged, I can also see JM having a day exactly like Jennings. It isn't like he didn't have some absolute clunkers this season. What I will say is that as a team, Bama is much better built to play in the playoffs than SMU was and it was less likely what happened to SMU or Indiana would happen to Bama (then I remember Oklahoma )
The same thing they always do: lose the only two big games they play.Where do I start. Boise, SMU, Indiana, Clemson, and not sure what Penn State did this year. SMH
Why would he be disappointed? They did not play to the level that validated that all year.Rhett Lashlee's take after the game today: "We didn't play well enough to say anything that isn't going to be written," Lashlee said. "It'll be written, should we be in or did we belong? That's fine. You're welcome to write it. We didn't play good today. But this is a quality team. We had a good team. We deserve to be here. We earned the right to be here. I'm disappointed we didn't play to the level that validates that."
It’s almost like college football doesn’t have 12 teams worthy of winning an NC this year (or any year). So a third of the teams? I think the same.
It should be an 8 team playoff. But ESPN wants the which comes with a 12 or 16 team playoff. The real lesson here is the playoff shouldn't include 12 teams...
Your last statement is where I'm at on it.Part of the issue if you have to include 12 teams, for instance I start naming teams that probably don't belong and I come up with Indiana, Clemson, Arizona St., Boise St., and SMU.
Even if you bring in the three missing SEC teams (Alabama, South Carolina, Ole Miss), that's still only 10 teams though. So, I think you have to bring a couple of my exclusions list along. I saw a computer composite that includes those teams along with SMU and Indiana.
I kind of hate to say it, but since there has to be 12 teams I'd probably let Indiana stay and then it becomes a question of best team or most deserving. Boise State might be the best team on that list (hard to tell) but at least Clemson played a couple good SEC teams.

I have pretty much lost respect for him. He is trying to be like Greenberg, and one Greenberg is one too many.Greg needs to get out of TV and be something else. His professional opinions on football aren't professional.
I’ve been screaming no more than 6 forever. And number 6 would be questionable at thatYour last statement is where I'm at on it.
It should be 6-8 teams at most.
I could see in any given year where a team in the 5-8 range might be the best and go on a run and win the NC.
But beyond that you're always going to risk putting in pretenders and/or teams with very exploitable flaws that have no business being in the bracket.
He’s always come off to me as that guy who believes his opinions are never wrong simply because he’s “smart”. Appreciate what he helped Bama accomplished in 09 but he’d be on a list of former players I wouldn’t care to ever see come back in any capacityGreg needs to get out of TV and be something else.
