Who do you guys think will be the biggest SEC impact true freshmen in 2009?

I'm going with whichever freshman receiver plays the most opposite Julio Jones at Alabama or Nick Green at Georgia.

Because I have those two sophomores in the SEC's top five impact players.

And if either team gets someone to complement them, they are going to have impact beyond any other freshman.

Maybe if either UGA or BAMA plays a freshman a lot at QB, they would have impact.
Is A.J. short for Nick? ;)

Bobbie Massie should start @ LT from day 1 .

Also , I'll step in line with GD's nomination of AA CB Darius Winston @ Arkansas .

A few thoughts on some players...

Trent Richardson is probably going to be the name you hear the most. With Coffee going pro and Upchurch in limbo, you can probably pencil Richardson in right now for 125-150 carries this season, and he'll probably see more meaningful touches than any other true freshman in the conferece. Combined with his raw ability, the production will be there.

Reuben Randle will get all the hype, but I doubt he's one of the bigger impacts. He's a bit raw and needs some honing, and at best he is going to be the third (or fourth) receiving target in an offense that will largely be run-based and one that will still not have great QB play. All put together, that's not going to generate a lot of production.

Nico Johnson is a name you will hear a lot. He's just too good of a defender to stay on the sideline, and he'll play a ton of meaningful snaps. Ditto goes for Dre Kirkpatrick.

Darius Winston, the five star corner, is going to make a pretty big impact with Arkansas. Their secondary is terrible, and he's probably the best player they have now, period. He'll start from day one, and should be about their best player.

Eltoro Freeman at Auburn will have a big impact. Their linebacker corps really has nothing to speak of, he enrolled early after spending two years at a JUCO, and he's a very talented kid. You do the math. He should be one of their best players.

Marlon Brown's impact at Georgia will likely be limited. He played against weak private school competition in high school, so there will be a fairly big adjustment period, and at absolute best he'll be the third option behind Green and Moore, with a raw and inexperienced quarterback throwing him the ball. Again, you do the math.

James Carpenter will have a big impact at Alabama. You can guarantee he will grab a starting job immediately, otherwise Saban would have never given him a scholarship, and frankly he looks to be a stud. Combine that with the fact that he enrolled early and will go through Spring practice, and you get the idea.

Andre Debose is going to have a big year at Florida. He'll step into the Percy Harvin role, and I still expect him to be a 500 / 500 guy as a true freshman. Yes he's young, but the spread option is a relatively simple offense, and all he'll have to do is put his athleticsm to work in space.

Craig Loston will make a big impact at LSU, bank on it. Their secondary sucks, and Loston is as good as any prospect in the entire 2009 class. If he stays healthy, I'd bet good money you'll hear his name called many times in the Alabama v. LSU game this Fall.

Russell Shepard will play some, but it will be more as a gimmick player. If he has any sense, he'll redshirt and move to wide receiver, but the ego and arrogance would never allow that.

Michael Ford will probably have a bit of a limited impact. You should see him play some, and he has a very bright future, but he's going to be behind both Charles Scott and Keiland Williams, not to mention a runner at quarterback, so he's probably just not going to see the ball all that much. If the two guys ahead of him stay healthy, I imagine he's looking at 50 carries at most, and he's not getting any special attention for that.

Both Pat Patterson and Bobby Massie will have a pretty big impact at Ole Miss. They are both in positions that will easily have them on the field, starting, from day one, and they'll get plenty of attention.

Chad Bumphis will catch a ton of balls this Fall, most likely. Granted he'll do it on a team that will, if lucky, go 5-7, but he'll catch a lot of balls.

For Bama I'd have to go with either Lacy or Richardson. Whichever one ends up as the two or even three back is going to gain some massive yardage and add incredible depth.

Bama AND SEC wise I'm going to go out on a limb and pick Kendall Kelly.

I think he's the offensive version of Dontae Hightower from this past year.
Great physical skill, few expectations, less pressure.

I see him as the 6'3 220 pound WR opposite Julio next year, and I see him destroying single coverage created by the doubles placed on Julio.

Remember....he's faster than Julio and is a great deep threat.

Plus he's strong as a bull.

Agree on all points. I really think the lower expectations of Kelly will help him out. He has all the physical tools, and if he can hit the ground running this fall, he could make a major impact. Players like Julio and A.J. Green are the exception to the rule. If KK can come in and be half as productive as Julio was his freshman year, I'd be happy. Considering last year our second leading receiver had only 324 yards, I'd be THRILLED if KK could come in and be half as productive as Julio.

Kendall needs to get and more importantly stay healthy first, but if/when he does the sky could truly be the limit for him IMO.

I like Trent Richardson as the instate impact player from this class.

ESPNU: Top 10 instant-impact prospects
Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Gasden, Ala., committed to Alabama The country's No. 1 corner has great coverage skills and he can contribute on special teams. Kirkpatrick's a very versatile athlete with exceptional quickness and footwork. He could see the field early in either the nickel or dime packages for Nick Saban. He simply has too many skills not to be on the field in the fall of 2009.

For my grand delusions to come true Fluker needs to be T.H.E. superstar from day one. That would fix so many other things. One year at OT in high-school to first-team all SEC in one smooth move.

Man, I would love to see Dre Kirkpatrick come in an make an impact immediately because we need some playmakers to step up in the defensive backfield.

But, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Kenny Bell will have a big impact in our offense. I think with a new QB this year, and him possibly getting hurried due to the new OL, I think our slot receivers will be getting a lot of quick passes. Hitting that quick slant pattern was (apparently) not a strength of JPW's, but I believe our new QB will be able to get the ball out to the slot receivers quickly. We all know that Julio will have plenty of success, but I think Bell stands a chance to come in and contribute immediately.

What about Lacy? (provided he qualifies of course) I watched film of both Lacy and Richardson and while they are both very impressive, Lacy to my untrained eye seems have something extra. The guy never seems to stop and is always trying to get the extra yard. I was amazed that he wasn't a 5* guy from his video. Is this just an example of there being better video on Lacy? Is TR that far ahead physically? Or am I just really bad at judging ability from watching video?

Without a doubt, Trent Richardson, and that's not just because he is a Bama player now. With Coffee leaving, it gives him a perfect chance to get a load of PT like Ingram did last season.

IMHO had Lacy been projected to qualify from the get go he would have been one of the most highly sought after RBs in the entire country. There isn't much of a difference in terms of talent between him and Richardson IMO. If he qualifies he will no doubt have a chance at earning playing time this season, he's that good.
