Yep, the reaction here and a few other sites has been really weird. I'm pretty sure anyone who has regularly watched football over the last decade has seen this strategy become more commonplace. Palmer even mentioned it during the broadcast, while they showed a replay. Palmer also said he thought Bernard should have gone down in bounds instead of scoring the TD. I disagree, though. I'd much rather be up by 7 with 34 seconds left than take a chance on a FG, regardless of the % for the kicker.

Bernard is to Coach Kalen Dabeor’s second season what David Palmer was to Coach Gene Stallings 1991 season.

I had written this huge Selma like thread about how both coaches first 21 games have mirrored each other in a lot of ways. I mentioned how while they are different players from different times they both served that Swiss Army knife like function that both coaches needed early in there tenure.

It wasn’t anything thought provoking like what
Selma writes and it’s not supposed to be a 1 to 1 comparison or suggest we are going to beat Miami next year for the 2026 national title lol. But there are some really strange coincidences and parallels between 1990-1991 (first half) and 2024-2025 (first half).
