Everyone will be surprised at Ty Simpson ability
I really hope that's true, and Simpson winning the job and playing at a high level is probably our best path at being back as a national title caliber team. However, I thought he would win the starting job two years ago, and he didn't. Granted, I'm sure he's improved since then, but it wasn't as if he lost the job to a really good QB.

The one thing I do have a ton of faith in is that DeBoer and Grubb will develop and choose the QB that gives us the best chance at success.

My biggest questions aka "unknowns" about Ty are:

1. Can he throw with anticipation like DeBoer and Grubbs' offense demands? Because if he can't, the offense will not look much better than last season.

2. Can he make the right protection calls and audibles at the LOS? If not, the offense will not look much better than last season.

These two things, from a QB perspective, will be what defines our offense. If he can do the above two things, we can/will have an offense to be feared. But these aren't easy things to do either.
We got very limited looks, but when he was in the games last season, he certainly did, to the point that the offense actually looked different. It's actually been noticeable in practice going back 2 years that he was hitting the routes in the right spot with the right timing. He's much more efficient and precise in his drops and footwork so is in the right spot to deliver with the right timing most of the time.

Not to beat the dead horse but I was highlighting the anticipation and throwing out of the breaks back in 2023 spring on this board. I could see it then when watching practice vids. One of the two was clearly better than the other.

He's still got another year of eligibilty. I think if that were his thinking, then he would've already transferred in the winter window. Most QB battles are not decided until the summer, so it would be unrealistic for him to expect to be named so early. Even if he transferred after spring, there wouldn't be much time to win the job wherever he ended up. Unless he just gets blown out of the competition, his best chance at being a starter this season is to stay put.

If I'm the coach, I don't name any starters until after the spring portal is closed. You can't, in this current climate, because that's just asking to lose people. If they want to leave mid-competition then bye and don't let the door hit you on the way out, because you're not a true competitor.
I think he has two years of eligibility left. Nobody would blame him for transferring if the coaches yet again do not give him a shot

right there with you. It was very obvious in the drills where they had the qbs running side-by-side, or when they would do reps of the same route back to back. The difference in snap-to-release time was pretty significant on the same routes.

Yeah, I meant another year after this coming year. I certainly wouldn't blame him for leaving, but I just don't see it happening before December if he did. It wouldn't make sense for him to stay through all that mess, just to leave halfway through the QB competition this spring. Since he's still here now, he's almost definitely going to ride it out one more time. If he were going to leave before the season, he already would've.

Ty balls out! We go undefeated in the regular season. Ty is in the Heisman conversation. Mack and Russell get lots of playing time, because we average 40+ a game and the defense leads the nation in fewest pts allowed. Germ and Ryan 1000+ season. Young breaks out and rushes for 1000+. Punter only punts 1-2 times a game. OLine wins Joe Moore award.
All doable…

I am just curious why the majority think Ty Simpson is the man. He has not impressed me in his limited action.

Can someone tell me what Ty has done athletically that impresses so many?
Let’s flip that…why so down TS? Do you know something we don’t? 5* for a reason. Coach’s kid. Showed class by sticking it out…Why the negativity?
(I’ll probably regret phrasing that as a question.🤣)

Yes to PT for all!

I never understood why CNS didn't do this more. It's a big reason for the lack of QB development after BY, IMO. Remember how much Tua played the year he backed up Jalen in '17?
But Tua was the only one whose talent demanded it. Keelon may be the same or may win the job outright. Also, Saban and DeBoer likely evaluate QB’s differently, as well as viewing playing time for backups differently.

lol…cherry pick much? Who even is that???
We’re all excited!!! Great QB room!!
I don’t think I would’ve picked a video where the receiver had to spin around mid flight to catch the ball.

The arm talent is undeniable, but there is a lot more to quarterback than just that.

Simpson gets the nod because he’s had years of college level game preparation and shown the ability to move the offense.

If Simpson gets beat out, that means the quarterback situation is much better than we thought.
