Why are we not talking about the women's basketball team?

Great effort yesterday on the road against top 10 Sooners. This closing stretch coming up of USC/FLA/Vandy and Texas is brutal- That said, we are definitely NCAAT bound which has become more of the norm under Coach Curry.

Need to start taking the Oats approach to scheduling out of conference. Might lose a few but it can prepare you for the tougher conference teams. The out of conference schedule was pretty weak.

I like this post about out of conf scheduling- I love getting 20 plus wins but 1-2 more at least truly challenging games in Nov Dec would probably help in Jan/Feb

All that said, I expect us to get an 8-9 seed this coming Monday night- That unfortunately would put us in line to play Texas/UCLA/UCONN :(

Surprised to see us get a 6 seed but I'll take it! Should beat Rhode Island before a matchup with 3 seed Louisville. Would love to see a Sweet 16 banner (at least) hanging for 2025-26. Should be well rested and hopefully make a little noise.

Gonna try to follow the Ladies vs the Cards today here at work-Would be a huge win against a perennial top 10-15 team.

Not going to complain about making the Big Dance and winning first round games- BUT it will be special when we make the Sweet 16 under Coach Curry. Ladies came so close yesterday. Hopefully we can get one of those top 16 seeds next year and host those 1st and 2nd round games. Huge advantage.

Well Curry just left for USF. Gotta wonder if she knew her time was up....
I just read that as well. Her name was also being rumored as a possible candidate at Northwestern as well.

Kristi is almost 60 years old. Changing jobs after 12 years in Tuscaloosa probably shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. It gives her the proverbial “reset”’ as a coach to rebuild a program and maybe ease into retirement after a contract and extension or two.

I think she did about as good of a job as we could have asked in her tenure here, given the competitive nature of the conference top to bottom. Still, I hate to see her leave.

Last year was the year for her to really make some noise. She had three WNBA draft picks and still got put out in Round 2. She was pretty consistent, but I have to say watching their games at times, I was not impressed with some of the fundamentals and play structure I saw.

Wonder if Madonna Thompson (HC of Shelton State Women's Basketball) will get a look?

I'm conflicted on that one.

Acknowledging that it's at a different level, her record is phenomenal, over a long period of time. So why hasn't she gotten a college job? I don't know.

Is the jump from junior college to the SEC just too big? Maybe.

I have no idea who might be on Byrne's list of candidates.

Not a good look losing your coach to USF. I get that women’s basketball is different than football but still.

I wonder how much of a pay bump she is getting. It’s a good deal for her. She can draw state retirement here and now gets to work in Florida with no state income tax.

I think CB4 is dead on. Spend the last years of her career in FLA, get out of a VERY tough conference and easier path to NCAAT at USF. And, I think we need to either increase spending on WBB or move back to Foster and pack it out at 2500 per game to have a better atmosphere. All that said, when will the "need to spend more on NIL" stop? There's only so much $$ and you have to keep MBB and FB happy first or noone eats.

Gonna miss her-The Wendall Hudson/Stephany Smith years were complete disasters and she had to build the program from scratch basically.

Coach Curry certainly did a good job elevating the women's BB program from being a dumpster fire. It does seem like she knew her time may be up and she had reached the ceiling, coupled with a mutual feeling from Byrne and others that it was time to move on. I wish her the best.

I've heard lots about Thompson from Shelton and her resume is impressive, even if it is at a lower level of competition, and she is an alumnus. I say give her a shot if she wants to make the jump...

I didn’t know the women didn’t play at Foster. Do they draw enough fans to merit Coleman?

They played at Foster until about 2-3 years ago? But then moved back into Coleman but when you draw 2-3k it's not a great atmosphere. I thought the atmosphere at Foster (where WVB still play) could be a huge advantage. I realize it's old, but crowd right on top of the opponents and obviously much easier to sellout.

As for the OP's question, this is probably not a politically correct answer, but the truth is I just don't enjoy watching women's sports that parallel men's sports.

On the other hand, women's gymnastics sells out Coleman. That's unique to women, on the college level.

And softball is different enough from baseball I can watch it.

But more than anything, I just stick to Alabama football and men's basketball. It's really all I have time/interest for/in.
