I saw today where he didnt play, was just wondering what happend to him? I thought Kareem Jackson and Marquis Johnson did pretty good jobs even though Johnson gave up the long TD. Johnson looks like someone with more game time will be a huge contributor down the road.

Re: Lionel Mitchell

i think mitchell has been having a lot of problems covering, and tackling on the corners. he gave up the losing touchdown in ot last week, and he was beat real bad. i am glad to see the new blood in the secondary. jackson seems to be doing real well at corner. johnson replaced carter i believe, again i think because of his poor tackling. of course, giving up the big touchdown hurts, but, he is young and inexperienced. it is a matter of time in getting bigger stronger athletes in the secondary.

johnson replaced lionel position i believe. and got burned twice for both crucial tds. and missed alot of tackles. i think mitchell would have played better.

Re: Lionel Mitchell

I was disappointed because there was no improvement from UGA to FSU and only little improvement from Ark to UGA and mainly just on the defensive side of the ball. I think Javy is slipping badly kind of looked like Brandon Brooks today ouch....

Re: Lionel Mitchell

Something must have happened. 3 big plays in their first TD drive, 2 passing, and one rushing TD all on the RC. They went to that well whenever they needed. Somebody must know what happened to LM?????????

You need to re-watch to OT TD again.... "beat real bad!" A CB can't cover someone much closer than that without getting flagged. Stafford through the perfect pass and the GA WR made an awsome catch. It was as simple as that!

Re: Lionel Mitchell

I was wondering why M. Johnson played so much too. He may turn out great with more experience but he was either way out of position on long pass to Fagg or there should have been safety help that he didn't receive. I know Mitchell got beat on the OT pass, but he had him covered pretty well.

I disagree, mitchell was in good position on that o.t play. It took a perfectly placed ball by stafford.

My thoughts exactly, hard to say he wasnt one of our best in the cb dept. It has become very hard to predict the starting lineup thus far.

I have always though Lionel Mitchell has been underrated. I cannot remember many big plays he has given up. I think he is also a decent tackling corner. He was in good postion against UGA in OT. Was he hurt, or did he get into some trouble? Nothing against Marquis Johnson, but I don't think Mitchell would have given up those plays either. Johnson needs some more experience. I guess this game provided that.

Lionel Mitchell Had Great Coverage On The Ot Td Against Georgia! It Was A Perfect Throw And Catch By Georgia That Got Us Beat!

End Of Story... Give Georgia Some Credit!

I Too Am Wondering Why Mitchell Did Not Play Because I Think He Is Clearly Our 2nd Best Cover Man After Castille.

My Two Cents

Coach Saban was asked if he was there and he said yes he was, then asked why he wasn't playing and he responded by saying we were getting beat on the right side and was moved over but Rashad was playing better. I got really confused by the answer I have no idea really. The link in this thread will get ya his answer on the question.

I'm assuming the answer is he's just that far down the depth chart. Nothing is more fun than playing football but it's a miserable game to watch in cleats and a helmet. Rip or ride pine.

Here is my summary of our secondary:
1. Castille, R. Johnson, and K. Jackson are the only three D-backs we have that I feel really good about.
2. Marquis Johnson was still in for some reason, and it could not be because he was the best option. I think he must have impressed at practice. If I remember correctly, FSU'###.O. for the opening drive in the 2nd quarter was pretty much, "Hey, throw it to the guy that Marquis Johnson is defending." A game vs. FSU away from home was not the way to get his first significant playing time.
3. Ali Sharrief is looking good, and I look to see him more.
4. I've heard we're going to free up a scholarship based on one of our safeties. Might be a good thing.
5. I would love to see Javier in there some time.
6. Some big-time senior high schooler should be looking at us, because they could play right away next year.

Look for Mark Barron to play a lot at safety next year. I actually would not be surprised to see him start at some point during the 2008 season assuming he does play safety.
