I believe it is the case that Garrett was let go or his scholly was not renewed by LSU. That is what is being reported. If that is indeed the case then why would Bama want him? If the Bama QB talent caused Star Jackson to leave, it will take a really talented, extremely confidentl QB to come in this year and be able to compete with A.J. McCarron and Phillip Sims.
I was talking about his initial recruitment in 2009. I highly doubt he would ever end up at Alabama, or any other SEC school, now.

I think the staff my be thinking they want to offer a kid at least 2 years as an upperclassman starter. Which I think is necessary to get the top flight QBs to commit. In the present case, assuming Phillip Sims doesnt beat out McCarron, he will only have one year to start as a senior while McCarron starts 3 years.

They maybe trying to space it out a bit. Obviously if there is a highly touted QB out there who is interested despite the depth at the position - you take him. However, if you are evaluating the current pool of recruits and you dont think they can legitimately challenge those you already have at the position and you cant offer them a significant role for a couple of years, I think you wait a year and really focus on bringing in the 4 or 5 star player that can really change a team.

QB Jameison Winston-2012 class. If you don't know the name, you will.
Hardcore fans are just unsettled over the idea of only two scholarshipped QBs in 2011. If you lived through the 2004 season, and care to remember it, I would venture to guess that's where a lot of the nervousness comes from. Jameison Winston can't get to Tuscaloosa fast enough.

With two underclassmen of the talent level of AJ McC and P Sims, I doubt Bama can land a QB in this class that's worth spending a scholly on. Bama will likely land Winston and perhaps another good QB in the 2012 class. It may be that Bama takes a calculated risk for 2011 with the following options as hedges against potential injury to AJ or Phillip: Bama will have three former HS QBs -- Brad Smelly, Blake Sims and Jabriel Washington -- on the roster. It's been a while since Smelly took snaps at QB but not so for Blake and Jabriel. Bama could also potentially add another pretty good walk-on QB to take regular reps at QB in order to avoid temporarily diverting Blake and/or Jabriel from their develpment at other positions. However, if one or both are redshirt candidates anyway that may not be as big of an issue. We'll see what happens, but I doubt Bama will add a scholly QB in the 2011 class.
