Since Bama is now playing 14 games, he might qualify since 4 games is less than 30% of 14. However, I doubt it matters. With his talent I seriously doubt he needs more than two years of eligibility. He may only use one more.

With the severity of his injury it might take over a year for him to get back to full speed. A medical redshirt would certainly help.
There's no doubt Hightower had a significant knee injury, but due to medical advances this injury is not the devastating injury that it once was.

I read a premium article on Hightower a month or so ago and the doctor and trainer told him he's ahead of schedule with his rehab. He said he will be doing agility drills with the team in the spring and expects to be released for contact prior to practice in August.

I believe the cut-off number is 20% of game time, and not past the fourth game. Although he didn't play past the fourth game, he did play in that game.

Agreed. If he's good as we expect (after the injury), I think he will have two more years (jr & sr) and then will not need the redsirt because he will be off to the NFL. If he hadn't had the knee injury he would probably be gone after next (his jr) year...

It's based on a 12 game schedule which excludes CCG's & bowl games .

As for the original question , read post #51 . You'll see the hardship rule and then you'll see how it has actually been applied . I'm not expecting a favorable ruling .

It really won't matter. DH is to good and will not stay here for 4 years. I think that is why Saban said they would evaluate if they do it down the road. If DH has a great year in 2010 he might be gone to the draft and if not definitly after the 2011 season. I believe they can apply for the MR even in 2011 for the 2009 season, but again if DH comes back as good as is he was, he will not be around that long.

I doubt that Dont'a gets the Med. redshirt. If he comes back strong, the pros will be begging him to come out early. I think he's that good, and so do most of you...
