this saturday? I think VT paid dearly for putting 2 and 3 players on Julio. I also am wondering if they will double team Mt. Cody, we probably won't meet a team all year that won't put 2 men on Cody. Does FIU have any special players that deem watching enough for Bama to put 2 men on? I think they have a WR that is really good.

Reciever/athlete #4. T.Y. is a stud, if you read the press releases and believe anthing CNS says ;). Their fans think he is one of their few hopes to stay close.

"Will FIU double team Julio"? If they don't they're stupid! He'll grab a few with two on him but with one he'll burn them. Really though, yes they will.

"I also am wondering if they will double team Mt. Cody" If they don't they're stupid! This is feeling like my previous feeling... I get the questions (for discussion & all). I would love to see Cody running wild though. Wouldn't that be nice?

"Reciever/athlete #4. T.Y. is a stud" and that's the special interest group for Bama this game. I have no doubt S has burned that into their skulls by now.

This *should* be a warm-up game though. I know, I remember other "warm-up" games that went bad... still... even the FIU faithfull are conceding.

But back to the first question: will FIU double team Julio? I guess the correct answer would be: if they can.

The problem Julio had in high school was similar to the one he had with VT. He was double and triple teamed in high school, and it eventually resulted in his playing injured his whole senior year.

As a result, I don't think he has ever learned how to deal with a double-team while he has his full physical capacities. I saw last Saturday about three situations where he was within a hairbreadth's of making the catch, but he allowed one of the defenders to hit the ball and jostle it from his grasp.

I think that Julio still hasn't come to terms with his own strength and therefore with his potential to outmuscle defenders. A perfect example was the overtime catch against LSU last year, when Patrick Peterson was able to grab Julio's shirttail and keep him from scoring. I think that if Julio had reached back with his free arm and swiped Peterson's arm, he probably could have freed himself and scored.

The same thing last Saturday night -- here were those DB's who looked sort of like gnats around Julio's head and shoulders, and he still was not as physical with them as he is capable of being. Once he realizes that even in Division 1A football he is stronger than the DB's, he probably will reach the kind of savvy that the pro receivers have, meaning he becomes more in tune with his own physicality in relation to the DB's covering him.

"Hit or get hit" is the old football adage. If you take the game TO the defense, you have already gained an advantage. Julio is still letting the DB's take the game to HIM, IMHO.

Good point!

Yes, he will get multiple defenders, and yes, we'll likely have to adjust to that for a bit before we can really carve them up.

As mentioned TY Hilton does warrant extra attention (I'm really more worried about him on Special Teams, though...), but the thing is, no one else on their offense comes near deserving it.

Frankly I think the first read GM makes on passing is to see if he's in single coverage - then regardless of the cover that's where he's going to go. It sure seemed that way on Saturday.

But I don't think you're going to find a lot of times where JJ or TC aren't doubled all season...and that's a recognition of their talent. When they're not, they'll make plays.

Only if they can't tripple team him. Our other receivers should likely have single coverage if that. If we still have rain in the area I would like to see us grind it out and run-them-over. Every additional man spent on covering Jones or trying to block Mt. Cody, should help our running game and give our other receivers a better chance to make plays.
(I expect it's gonna be a rariety for Julio to not receive double coverage the rest of the year.)

Yes they will (double team Julio) and it will cost them...but not as much as if they didn't.

Better question: Do they have the talent to double team Julio?
The better question is:

Is there enough D-1 talent in S. Florida willing to attend FIU? ABSOLUTELY !

FIU has been quietly getting substantial talent since the arrival of Coach Cristobal. Granted FIU competes with UF,FSU and UM to get that talent, but make no mistake, There is still plenty of quality D-1 talent that is finding it's way onto the FIU campus.

This FIU team will only get better as years pass ( from a talent standpoint )
