Wisconsin was placed on one year's probation and fined $25,000 on Thursday after an NCAA investigation showed that nine coaches and staffers made impermissible phone calls to recruits in 2023. ...
A Committee on Infractions hearing panel determined that a total of 139 impermissible phone calls were made to 48 prospects.
When you have NINE coaches doing this, seems like this should be LOI, right? Their excuse is that they had a "new staff" and a "misunderstanding of rules pertaining to recruiting calls."

At least they're "deeply committed to maintaining the highest level of integrity and holding ourselves accountable [and] we believe in doing things the right way, no matter the consequences."

Ima say the consequences are ... not much.
  • 1 yr probation
  • $25K fine
  • Coach Luke Fickell & OL/ST coach Matt Mitchell can have no recruiting communications June 15-21 (this coming week)

This, to me, is like a speed trap. We're going to sit here just over the hill and pickoff everybody that's going 75 in a 65. Not too worried about gang-banging, dope-smoking, street-racing morons because that takes effort.

Wisconsin realized they did something they shouldn't. reported it, provided call logs, and the COI looked at it, and said "YEP! ... next."

There's no more "looking down the barrel of a shotgun" for anyone, anymore, for anything so far as I can tell.

My first reaction was , “ So what ? “. With the overarching catastrophe that’s “ college “ football today, just what “ punishment “ can the NCAA actually levy? I guess I can’t really understand why the major players in “ college ” football haven’t already flipped the middle finger to the NCAA and just got on with forming another governing body…….of some sort.
Perhaps I’m missing something, uninformed, or both.

I just hope the new staff can "understand" the sanctions.

This is dumb. At this point, the NCAA should be doing nothing more than hosting championship events in every sport but football.
