There's no doubt in my mind that if Saban and staff would have wanted Richardson, he would be a Bama lean/commit. You'll never hear that from the Barners, but that's the truth. He admitted a while back that Bama cooled on him. He had Bama very high on his list early, but made no mention of us for a while. That means that we essentially stopped going after him.

I think the fact that we got Kendall Kelly in the '09 class had a good bit to do with us backing off of him, since they are essentially the same type of WR. Also keep in mind that Ambles is obviously much higher on our list than Richardson ever was.

Richardson's a good player and Auburn should be proud to get him. However, I don't think it's the result of the recruiting circus they had the past month or so. I also don't think he chose Auburn over Bama. Like I said, if Saban had him high at all on our board, he would have been recruiting him 90 mph, but that was not the case the last few months.

:BigA: Milliner is #9 on rivals and Richardson is #160!!! Do the Aubbies really want to compare! Alabama is now ranked #2 and the Aubbies may finally break into the top 40! They will probably be elated if they break into the to 25 as a final rating! Sooner or later you knew they would finally land a decent athelete! Kudos for the Aubbies!! They are all ready ordering championship rings!! I dont know if it is for recruiting or the best college football team?

Ole barner in a bad disquise Ray Melick chimes in on Richardson. He says recruiting is a chess match. One of the posters below the article says Saban is playing chess and Chizik is playing checkers.

With Jeremy Richardson on board at Auburn, the chess match intensifies
In reality, it will take Auburn's staff a full year to even begin to catch up, since they've only been on the job six months and recruiting has become a year-round job.

Getting a commitment from Richardson hardly makes Auburn even with Alabama. But it's a big step in the right direction.

Mr. Saban, I believe the next move is yours.

That's probably right. I imagine he did have some sort of offer from the schools that were claimed, but I'm also sure that they were conditional offers that would not become commitable until (and unless) those schools missed out on several prospects above him on their board.

In Alabama's case, we might only have room for one more receiver prospect (if Sims stays at WR), and I figure Richardson was probably fifth or sixth on our board at receiver. You do the math on the likelihood of that conditional offer ever turning into a commitable one.

At any rate, though, if you have an offer that's not a commitable offer, then in all reality you don't have anything. It's the same thing as having a winning lottery ticket that the lottery board won't accept... it's a worthless piece of paper.
Thank you. A non-commitable offer isn't an offer. That always drives me crazy to read and hear.

We don't know if he had a commitable offer or not. We do know he chose Auburn and he should do well there. Hope his career is good except against Bama.

While it is true that that we don't know for a fact that Richardson didn't have a committable offer what we do know from his own comments was Bama had pretty much stopped recruiting him. Speculate on whether he had a committable offer or not if you want but the fact remains he was definitely not a priority for our staff.

Sentell: Jeremy Richardson did commitment the right way

Okay, so this is a nice story. May God's blessings be upon the young man and his family.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pounder spent his commitment spotlight in tribute. He made his decision public at the hospital bedside of grandfather Sammy Newsome. Jeremy said he's continuing a low-odds fight with throat cancer. Richardson had no plan for a public announcement after his silent commitment at "Big Cat Weekend." But he found a perfect route when Newsome returned to the hospital to remove another growth. His condition has required him to use a voice box at times.

"Nobody can understand him sometimes but I can by reading his lips and face," Richardson said.

The folks that authored "Big Cat Weekend" and "Tiger Prowl" could never top such a genuine act.

"I wanted to show him I cared," Richardson said. "I didn't want to do it without him. It was thanks for all those years I needed him growing up."

I saw that, and it's a very heartfelt story.

All in all, from what I've read on Richardson, your heart has to go out to him. He's been through a lot, to put it mildly. It's my understanding he never had much of a Dad growing up, and was raised by his mother and his grandparents. Unfortunately his mother has since died, as has his grandmother, and his grandfather is obviously in very bad condition.

Regardless of what colors he may wear on Saturday, you just have to pull for a kid like that. No kid ought to have to go through all of that before he turns 18, and you just cannot root again someone who has been forced to overcome all of that.
