I'd rather have Kendal Kelly or another wide receiver who REALLY wants to play at Alabama and not settle for us.

My thoughts exactly.....:BigA:
Hopefully we get Kelly, and if I was a receiver. I would want to come to a team where our other receiver is going to see double coverage most of the time................

Re: *** WR Michael Bowman Commits to Alabama ***

After reading the articles. I think this cat will jump ship maybe if offered a scholarship from Georgia. Who knows, and you never know sometimes with recruits. Maybe Bowman thinks he can get on the field sooner at Bama too....

Time will tell with this recruit....

Re: *** WR Michael Bowman Commits to Alabama ***

I think we'll all be cautious with Bowman until he actually steps foot on campus. It doesn't give you a very good feeling at all reading his quotes. That being said, if he makes it here, he's gonna be a big-time playmaker for us.

Keep in mind that his next scheduled ACT testing is in October and he says he needs 3-4 points on it to be qualified. So we may know something on him fairly soon. I've never seen a recruit commit to 'Bama that is so "sold" on another school as this kid is to UGA. Athens is where he wants to be. Hopefully he'll get his academics worked out and end up wherever makes him content...whether it be here or in Athens.

The other thing that concerns me here is the ramifications with Bumphis. I hope this is not an indication that he's leaning towards MSU. I really, really hope we can land Bumphis...

Re: *** WR Michael Bowman Commits to Alabama ***

according to his coach this morning, he hasn't committed, yet....

There are plenty of kids that don't get to play for their favorites....and a lot of times, those kids play with chips on their shoulders....if he comes to Bama, he'll be happy and a good player....

BTW, this is a pretty big surprise....

The latest info from Bowman's HS Coach Mark Mariakis is that Bowman has not committed to Alabama. Bowman and his parents are going to visit Alabama this weekend and they will make a decision after that. I would say short of Georgia offering him between now and then that he will commit to Alabama.

To those that are saying they don't want Bowman if his heart is set on playing at UGA and he is only coming here if they don't offer him, I would remind y'all that over the last six years Auburn has been beating us with some talented players that wanted to come to Alabama but did not get an offer. QB Brandon Cox comes immediately to mind, he never lost to Alabama but he grew up a Jay Barker fan and with the dream to play at Alabama. He did not get an offer.

I am going to change this thread back to update and we will see what happens this weekend.

Does this mean he's committed?

Ridgeland’s Michael Bowman ends wait for UGA, will commit to Alabama

I thought so but upon further review this morning he has not committed to Alabama. But it sounds like he intends to commit this weekend unless UGA offers him which I doubt they will until he is qualified or has a qualifying test. Even if Bowman does commit some are saying if UGA offers later then he will jump ship. This one will be interesting to follow up until NSD to say the least.

I am really hoping Bama lands WRs Kendall Kelly, Chad Bumphis, and/or Kevin Norwood. I had thought Bowman was a longshot before the latest developments. I would say two or three of the four above would be a great WR class.

You may be able to deduct that Mt Cody wanted to commit to Miami but didn't get an offer from the Canes. Me thinks he's enjoying rolling with the Tide.

If Bowman wants to come here, then we can surely use his talents. Like I said earlier I really want Kelly and Bumphis, if both of them commit it wouldn't even be a big deal to me whether Bowman jumps ship

It sounds like to me he is trying to put the squeeze on UGA. Telling them if you don't offer now I am going to Bama.

I'm going to believe this one when he runs on the field wearing crimson and white.

I'd still go hard after Kevin Norwood and Bumphis. Kelly, of course, is the golden egg we'd love to have.

The Norwood kid is such a "Saban type player". I know he'd fiit well within our system.

Without trying to seem harsh to Bowman I have trouble getting fired up about "non-commital, commitments". I think we need players who are 100% sold on the program and the University.

Pardon me for not being too excited about MB's possible commitment. I don't like the fact that he may have to "settle" for Bama. Would rather have a player that WANTS to be a Bama football player instead of a guy that would rather be elsewhere. Just my .02 worth.

OK guys, y'all need to lay off the boy a bit....

According to his coach, he loved his trip to Alabama this summer and saw it as a place he could play.

Apparently, the AJC really messed up with this article, or something was miscommunicated on some end.... he will not make a decision soon, per his coach, and his family will visit the Bama campus very soon.

IF IF IF, he commits, we should be very excited because he is an outstanding WR.

I have learned not to question CNS. Sometimes of course it happens in my mind sometimes during say, Tulane outplaying us at home, but reality quickly sets in a I remember the Mal Moore, though considering it long and hard, decided to go a different route and settled with Nick Saban instead of myself but I'm sure it will work our for both of us in the end. And if there is one area I NEVER even begin to second guess CNS it is in recruiting. If CNS takes this kid's commitment then I will be absolutely thrilled to have a player of his caliber. True, if you live here you realize the "fish wrapper" makes a lot of mistakes.

But, I agree he is an outstanding WR and he would fit in well here. In the end what will be,will be,...shaking him up on the board won't help our cause.

I think the family coming here is a big plus. I have no doubt that they will realize that this is a top flight program, with top flight coaches and, just as important, Alabama is a university that will supply Michael with a top flight education.

:BigA: RTR!

I really do not see what the big deal with this kid wanting to be a bulldog. He probably grew up a fan. If I was a prospect I could tell you that I would want to be a member of the Crimson Tide and would do anything to be apart of it. Now if the shoe was on the other foot and Bowman was pulling a Smelley, trying his best to get a scholarship to us, we would all applaud him and he would becoma a fan favorite.

The bottom line is that he is a great wideout and if he commits to us, he will be great!!! I feel sorry for him because I know how painful it would be to play for someone other than Alabama.

No doubt. I've never said I didn't want him...just figured if he's that smitten with GA and he's sure he will qualify, then maybe he should wait about committing to any school for now as its still early in the season.
On the flipside however, Bama's class as well as UGA's is filling fast so I'm sure that weighs in part of his decision. If we're second on his list, I'm good with that too. Either way I trust CNS and staff on it and it'll be great if he ends up wearing Crimson.

I think you are exactly right. From what I can gather it looks like he is afraid that by the time he gets a qualifying score UGA may be all filled up. He also thinks his second choice Bama may be filled up also, so he is taking the bird in the hand approach. Which I can not blame him for making that smart choice. Like I said earlier in this thread, there are a lot of talented prospects that grow up wanting to play for Alabama that go elsewhere because of Bama not offering them. Make no mistake this guy is a top WR prospect and as RTO and others have said he will be a great addition to Bama class.

I made a negative post about the kid earlier..but.."After further review"...I'd have to agree with the mod. There is a very real possibility that this young man could get "left out of the mix entirely". Who am I to blame him for making sure he has a scholarship.
Sorry..

Georgia is a great program and its run by one of the few SEC coaches I view to have some integrity. So if the kid wanted to go there I don't think for a minute that speaks poorly of him. The facts are that Georgia is loaded with talent and some kids are going to be better off coming to us. In a few years that situation could be reversed, its comes and goes. So let the kid make his decision, We have had many a player who took Alabama scholarship as a second choice and they were the heart and soul. Remember the britt brothers all grew up Barners. When they make their choice to join the Crimson Tide nation, they become family no matter where they started.
