Growing up and reading Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo and watching the movie I have always regarded the Doolittle Raid as one of the great wartime adventures. Ted Lawson's account of the mission, their crash on the coast of China, their injuries and escape from Japanese held territory is a tale greater than any fiction.
There are many war time stories that would make Hollywood fiction pale in comparison. Mel Gibson actually has to tone down the story in Hacksaw Ridge because it was so unbelievable. He didn’t think audiences would believe it!

Don't know why this thread only garnered two posts but just ran across this video to add...making it a resounding three posts now....

The US did not lose many fleet carriers in the Pacific War (Lexington, Yorktown and Hornet come to mind, Hornet being the last).

It is still hard to understand the sacrifices that were made during WWII unless you were there. As time goes on we tend to forget all the heroic things and how it changed so many lives. I for one will be forever grateful. To the greatest generation ever I salute you. May God Bless those that are still with us.
