I saw that earlier today. It is a good read.

Believe it or not, I've run into many Ole Miss fans over the years who have great respect for Alabama and Coach Bryant. I heard a caller on the local sports radio this morning talk about being a die-hard Ole Miss fan, but thought there was no way in Hades OM was going to beat Bama.

Here's to hoping the Alabama players are hearing that kind of talk, or believing it if they are reading it.
Ole Miss is hurting right now, but if Alabama is looking past Ole Miss at the next opponent (whoever that is; I forget right now), then Saturday could be mighty embarrassing.
The sad truth is that Ole Miss made a bad mistake firing their coach last year. CDC had had a bad year, but firing the guy after one bad year, especially after he had the Rebels playing better in 2003 than they had a quite a while, injected turmoil into that program at exactly the wrong time.
Sort of like Nebraska firing a 10-win coach. After that, nobody wanted to touch the Cornhusker job.
I hope the Tide stays focused on one game at a time. We can focus on the next opponent starting on Sunday.

everybody read that. in fact i wish we could send it to every recruit...don't see how you could read that and not come to Alabama.

That is without a doubt the best post I've read on any

board at any time! And not because it's about Bama, but because it's from a true SEC football fan who can appreciate others success while not reveling in his own teams misfortune! I know several Aubies & UcheaT fans who should read that and try to understand that our Tradition was built on the shoulders of generations of greatness. Not just one team, one year or even one generation...but rather many of all! Yes, we do have a tendency to "live in the past" if you will...however, as many have said before me...it's because we have a past! Our past is also what will inspire young men to come to the Capstone and try to regain that greatness! I thank God every day that Coach Shula decided to come back to HIS University and bring us back to Greatness!

The Rebel's post should be required reading for all Alabama fans. I just hope we never begin to behave in any manner other than what he described. We need to do the impossible. That is, be nice to even Tennessee fans. I lived in Tennessee for four years after working at Alabama for ten years. Of course, most of the people I met were Tennessee fans. Believe it or not, they hate us just about as much as we hate them. But, if you can imagine, it is not a bad hate (if there can be such a thing). Those folks love the rivalry that those institutions have. Tennessee has no in-state rival as we have Auburn. As a result Alabama fills that roll.
In the future, as we fuss and fume over the UcheatU and Vomiteers and other terrible names we can conjure up, ask yourselves do you really want Tennessee to go away. I don't. What I do want is to get back to ten straight wins. I want to beat the living daylights out of them. But I want to do it all with class, like the Rebel described.
Remember, the classier we are, the more it hurts Tennessee. They simply don't have the tradition of class that we have. They would love to be like us.
Above all, let's don't become like them.
Cherish one of the great rivalries in college football.

Coaching at Ole Miss and MSU are two of the most difficult jobs in the SEC. The reason? Three competitive Div 1A schools in a state with 2.7 million population. In comparison Alabama has 4.7 million, Louisiana 4.3 million, Georgia 8 million, South Carolina 3.8 million, Florida 16 million, Tennessee 5.5 million and Kentucky 4 million. In the SEC, only Arkansas has a smaller in-state population (at 2.4 million) to recruit from than Mississippi.

Of course, the answer is to just recruit players from surrounding states, but more times than not, the ones available are those not chosen by their in-state schools. In addition, although I think quite wrongly, Mississippi has been stigmitized by the national press as a focal point of racial predjudice, which makes it more difficult for the schools from this state to pick up a kid from Chicago or even Miami. Lastly, the schools are not located in or near large metro areas...again hampering apeal to a kid contemplating where he wants to spend his first years of social freedom away from home.

The Ole Miss president recently stated that Ogeron's success is going to depend on how well he can recruit. Well, if that's the case then he can be certain his stay won't be more than a few years.

Ole Miss has tons of spirit, tradition and class. What it doesn't have is a large recruiting base...and that sad fact will sink them every time. RTR.

I like Ole Miss and I wish them well (except this Saturday).
When they fired CDC, I remembered how distressed I was as an Alabama man just a few years ago, when one coach was fired, the next one left after two years, the next was fired, and thinking to myself that the players just deserved a chance to play under one system for long enough to develop their talents, master the schemes, and represent themselves and the University well. The seemingly endless turmoil at coaching seemed to be making that impossible. I especially felt bad for players like Shaud W and Tyler W. Those guys played their hearts out, but the coaching changes seemed to conspire against them.
Through the grace of God, we now have a coach we can be proud of, who is blessed with a great coaching staff, who loves this University and doesn't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.
To see Ole Miss voluntarily and deliberately start that coaching merry-go-round is disheartening for the school, its team and their fans.

Perhaps some of you could help by posting this on every feakin Auburn and UT board you can think of, I think there are some people out there who need some reminding of what Bama stands for.

Okay I had tears in my eyes, and for the person who said they wished they could have seen him just once, he was "Great". The two days I remembering crying the most were the Day Coach Bryant died and the day Walter "Sweetness" Payton died, now those were true heros.

I run into a LOT of Ole Miss fans where I'm from. Florence, AL is just my temporary home until the semesters of college end, then it's back to MS. It seems a lot of Ole Miss fans I run into have respect for Bama, or is a closet Bama fan when Ole Miss isn't doing good. This is a complete opposite from when I run into an M$U fan. They have little man syndrome, I guess because they are so close to Tuscaloosa.

In contrast, I think one of the reasons Ole Miss fans respect Alabama so much is they embody everything they want for their own program. Ole Miss has won 2 National Championships, but you wouldn't think it was so few by talking to most of their fans. They speak of Ole Miss Tradition like its still alive and pumping. I get tired of hearing it, they act like they have this great program, when deep down their terrified that they have just as little tradition as a Kentucky or M$U. I think they would have better teams if they had a different AD. He listens to the voice of the fan too much. Not everyone wanted Cutcliff fired, only the more vocal fans didn't like him, and because he listened to the loudmouths, it happened. Now he has gotten them in an even deeper hole.

P.S. I think I need to remind you guys, just because one guy has a love for Alabama and the Bear doesn't mean the rest of them do. Yeah several respect us and our tradition, but that doesn't mean they love us like this guy. Lets not get into a lovefest with OM like we did with Oklahoma!

I sent his post to the athletic department in the hope that it would be shown to our players before they left for the game. This is what they need to understand about wearing those Crimson Jersey's and since not a single one of them was born when Coach Bryant died, except possibly some of the 5th year seniors, I thought they might carry that knowledge with them proudly.

That was a great read, and very well written. I guess because I graduated from Vestavia Hills High School and we were the Rebels I have always liked Ole Miss. I was at Vestavia the first time we actually had a mascot and we were the class that got to name him, we named him "Stan the Rebel Man." Ever since I was a kid I have gone to sleep at night with a confederate flag above my bead and a bust of General Robert E. Lee on my nightstand. I love the Rebel mascot but am still 100% Bama. I like to see Ole Miss do well every weekend except this one. Roll Tide Roll.
