BREAKING YouTube.TV drops Disney/ESPN/ABC & an alternate

Some TVs have two different antenna options. You might need to make sure you’re searching for the proper digital channels. It’s usually listed as “ATSC” or something like that.

I broke down and subscribed to the Disney+, Hulu, ESPN Unlimited Bundle this morning. I was already subscribing to Disney+, which they are doubling the price in December. I have a bunch of young kids who live off it.

I looking at the Sling Day Pass you can only stream on 1 device. So that wasn't going to work in my household.

I don’t have young kids but I do have young grandkids. When they are here (frequently) they live on Bluey, Super Rescue Team, Ms Rachel, etc.

If it weren’t for them I would cancel YTTV buy a digital antenna, take what I get, and say “to heck” all of them.

I need to read more anyway. Much better for me as I age to keep my brain engaged that way than it is to watch “mental chewing gum” of network programming these days.

Did some reading. I moved the antenna up into the attic and used a website called Channel Master (not linked on purpose because it looks really nerdy but there's no telling what else might be in there) to see where the signal path would be. I just entered my address and used to compass on my phone to "aim" the antenna almost due north. Viola. 40+ channels and great quality. FWIW, ABC transmitter is about 29 miles away from me and NBC is over 30.

I use a site called Rabbitears.info: https://www.rabbitears.info/searchmap.php

You drag the map marker to your location and then click the blue GO button. It's easier on a computer. Moving that map marker on my iPhone is a pain. But once done, this site provides a lot of good info.

Their fine print says they can block your IP if they suspect you are using multiple trials from the same address. So keep on as long as it works and your are not planning to actually subscribe one day.

As I said above, I have the opposite problem. I'm only a mile from the ABC and CBS towers and about three from NBC, so the signals are literally flying by up over my head. I had never realized that as a problem, until the local APT station had an open house. (They are literally three blocks away.) Some guys were there who'd worked at the network channels and explained it. I bought a boosted UHF antenna, which is a sheet of plastic a little larger than a sheet of paper and a little thicker than a credit card and mounted it on a shelf about a foot short of the ceiling in the study, so about 7' high, and it worked. To get ABC, I just switch sources on the smart TV. Of course, I can't run plays back, record, etc. That was all handled by YTTV. I do have ESPN on the computer, so I can watch on the little screen for basketball, etc. Funny, the monitor is 32" on the diagonal. Not so many years ago, that would have been a decent-sized TV... :)

I’ve gotten away with it for 2 weekends. Maybe next weekend I will use the 5 day free trial of DirecTV stream . I may go back to FuBo, full time, but I will have to wait out the Disney purchase and see where they land. I only subscribe to TV streaming during football season. Otherwise , I have a free year of Peacock, Amazon video with my Prime subscription, subscribe to Paramonut this time of year only to watch the Sheridan shows, and alternate Hulu and Netflix other parts the year. I do that mostly for my wife, TV isn’t that big a deal anymore.

They do make third party DVRs that work with digital cable. I don’t have one though, but hear they work well.

Hook your computer to your large screen TV with an HDMI cable and watch your espn there... :cool:

Don't be fooled by this scummy offer.

It's a one-time $20 credit on your next bill. My next bill is 3 weeks away. This forces everyone to pay for another month of service, even if the channels remain dark. And people are trying to frame YTTV as the good guy.

Never mind that we have technically already paid for these channels in the current month, but cannot watch them. I want a $20 refund immediately. What if the channels never return? Will they lower the price by $11-15 a month, the rumored amount that Disney gets from each of us? Don't count on it. And people are trying to frame YTTV as the good guy.

Making me wait 3 more weeks for a one-time credit was the last straw. Once I accepted the offer, and it then said "will appear on your next bill," I immediately canceled. Bye-bye, YTTV scumbags.

I actually liked having DirecTV this weekend, and it will become my new service. 4K channel included, ESPN Unlimited included, Sports South and Sports Southeast available. Only $7 more than YTTV. I call that a win!

The DTV app is not quite as refined as YTTV and is a bit laggy to navigate, but it functions good enough to get to the channel I want. The picture quality appears slightly better than YTTV. Unfortunately, DTV's multiviewing options are pretty pathetic compared to YTTV, but with ESPN Unlimited, I can jump into the ESPN app and do multiview. So I will get by just fine.

The drama is now over for me. YTTV treats its customers just as badly as Disney does, yet I see so many people praising them on Reddit when this is the reality:

Yeah. I had already paid on the 28th of October, so that stupid $20 credit is not worth crap for me. Cancelled anyway and doubtful I ever go back. There are no good guys in this fight.

If you only care about sports, go for the Genre Packs; that's what I did. MySports + MyHome Team gives me every sports channel I need, plus my RSNs. Even includes TBS, TNT, and TruTV so March Madness is covered. $79.98 for the first 2 months, then $89.98. No contracts, can cancel at any time.

If you don't need the RSNs, then remove MyHome Team and subtract $19.99 from the above prices.
