Please explain for those of us who never refereed: does this mean that they kick from the normal place, and then 15 yards is tacked on to our return? Or does it mean that 15 yards is tacked on to our first play from scrimmage?
its on the return each half

I thought there would be a lost time out in each half. UCLA did this.
The rule was changed for the 2009 season. UCLA and USC agreed to wear their school colors, without prior approval of the NCAA or conference. The penalty for the violation was one time out against USC, each half, and Rick Neuheisel burned one immediately afterwards to make it even.

The 2009 rule change is the one that enforces the 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, and as CrimsonAudio stated, it is after the kick return.

BUT, here's what Kiffin said when asked if he'd have the team wear orange despite Bama's refusal:

“We’re not good enough to do that,’’ Kiffin said. “The last thing we want to do is kick off 15 yards back.’’

Which is precisely why he may do it. He's potentially stupid enough to think it will help his team win.

If they do, they'll come out in warm ups with the white jerseys on and then when they go back into the locker room they'll change. I can see LK doing this just because it fits his personality and may give his team five minutes of motivation before the beatdown in T-town begins. He's a legend in his own mind so no I wouldn't put it past him.

Frankly, I would not be surprised either way. The way our kickoff coverage had been I could see Kiffin not worried about that, but I would not want to kick 15 yards back with Javy returning or tack on 15 (whichever it is) to what he got on his own.

I don't think he will want the crowd or the Tide any more jacked up than they will already be, but then again, he has done some pretty foolish things already.

I could see them wearing white, and then after warm ups, go in and put on the orange shirts for the game.
twjua, I was thinking along the same lines. Except opposite. I figured they'd come out to warm up in orange. Then, come back out in white. No harm. No foul - just a lot of buzz.

Who knows? Bama may give permission at last minute, which would make it a non-issue. Coach Saban delegated  the decission to Coach Mal, because he is focussed on the important things necessary to win the game.

NOTE TO UT:

Color of jersey has no impact on success on the field. Please see UA vs. UGA 2008 for reference. Thank you.

I have seen on the BAMA/TN board on ESPN, where all the TN fans are saying we are scared to let them b/c they owned us when they wore the orange jerseys. A bunch of them honestly believe it gives them the edge.

with the amount of penalties we got on returns last week, we may end up offsetting the 15yds ;)

I think that Saban is one move ahead in this chess game, whether or not Kiffen breaks out the orange. It would surprise me if Saban cared about the jersey color. I figure that Saban is just intrigued by the likelihood that Kiffen's unchecked ego and immaturity will compel him to give up 30 yards of field position. I do not think that there will be a significant motivational impact for either team based on jersey color, especially after a few licks have been passed. As someone once said, a Saban-coached team executing properly with the right personnel plays football like someone killing for money. Orange cloth will not matter, excepting the 30 yards it could afford us.

BamaMoon,

I'm in total agreement. Bama FANS! Be loud when UT has the ball.

Bama's players just need to be ready to hit anything that looks like a Highway clean-up crew. Hit 'em hard and often!

With the way we have been getting penalties on kick-offs, those penalties at the beginning of each half could off-set each other. So that would be like no penalty at all for the ut's.

Bama's players just need to kick their _ _ _ _ _ and go up in the stands and slap their one tooth mommas!
