I tend to give McCoy the benefit of the doubt here. I've lived with pinched nerves in my neck and lower back and nerve damage in my hands for a few years now and they can do some pretty screwy things to you. When you have something go dead, it goes dead. If he couldn't feel his arm he would literally have had little to no grip on the football and therefore no control over his passes at all. You can't throw what you can't feel. I've had problems in the past, for example, while driving when my hands went numb and I had to pull over so my wife could drive. It is a very disconcerting feeling.

The trainers were probably trying to treat what they could and give a little time in the hopes that the feeling would return so he could get back out there. He's probably got some sort of damage that is going to have to be surgically repaired. If he's lucky he only has to have shots and physical therapy.

Now, could he have stayed in and run the ball? Yeah, but then he becomes one-dimensional, you take Shipley out of the game and Shipley is clearly their second best player. So you bring in the backup with the good arm and give Shipley a chance to make some plays. Which he did.
What about this then if Colt comes back into the game to take up on their running game.

1. Mt. Cody lands on top of him, makes him throw up like Noel Divine.

2. Rolando McClain hits him so hard he sees Tebow angels spining before his eyes, concussion

3. Arenas finds Colt on a corner blitz hitting him so hard they find nothing but Colt's shoes on the field.

I've read 14,000 columns, opinions, and reports.

Writers can make the game of football seem way too complicated. And their views sometimes amaze me.

For example, contrary to most writers opinions, Alabama wasn't "lucky" that Colt McCoy got hurt.

Alabama is the "reason" Colt McCoy got hurt.

Marcel Dareus insured that Colt McCoy got hurt by knocking Colt McCoys entire ... and shoulder into oblivion.

Would the game have turned out differently if McCoy had played? Who knows? Who cares?

He didn't. He couldn't. He got hurt. He got his butt physically whipped. Poor baby.

Texas had the same opportunity to hurt Greg McCelroy, who came into the game with two cracked ribs.

They couldn't do it. Poor Longhorns.

Would Bama have won by 50 if McCelroy had been 100%?

Who knows? Who cares?

The game unfolded as ball games unfold.

Players get hurt. Players play with injuries.

Some can overcome, some can't. McCoy couldn't. McCelroy did.

The team that overcame WON. That simple.

Bama overcame to the tune of 37. Texas overcame to the tune of 21.

The trophy resides in Tuscaloosa.

Ice that shoulder Colt. And wipe Marcels's tatoo of off your butt, cause he kicked your ....

Roll Tide! Non Excuse Making National Champs!!!

sip
I LIKE the way you talk!!!;)

Think I've already said this in another thread =

The play Colt was hurt on was a designed run,
whether Mac Brown called it,
the OC called it,
or Colt checked to it,
it was part of the game plan.
The game plan backfired;
Mac Brown had no plan B, no back up game plan,
you can bet your next pay-check Saban had one.

All the so called "expert annalist" said Colt would have to pass AND use his running ability to beat Bama.
Ask Less Miles about running a QB at the physical Bama D.

The "experts" were wrong;
Mac Brown bought into an idea that was wrong,
the Texas gameplan was wrong,
it got their QB hurt.
Plan A was all they had.

It is what it is = Bama National Champions

My comment about being "Fair":

"The Fair" comes once a year and you can go ride the rides if you choose:

Alabama Crimson Tide = 13 National Championships
It just aint fair to win that many!

While I certainly wish no harm to Mr McCoy, I look back on his injury as "poetic justice".

The undefeated season by Texas was allowed to continue by virtue of a similar injury to one Sam Bradford, and came to an end in much the same fashion as Mr Bradford's season did.

I must admit that I never once witnessed a single Sooner making excuses about a 3 point loss.

I would love to have been able to say the same thing about Longhorns

I feel terrible for Colt, but we're not giving the trophy back.

Has anyone bothered to point out that his injury is one of the pitfalls of running your QB 10-15 times a game on designed runs? Colt wasn't breaking out of the pocket or scrambling away from the pass rush. That was an option play, and Colt has been Texas' best running back all year. Collisions at the line of scrimmage are violent; they're head on and significantly more traumatic than getting hit in the pocket. To say Alabama was lucky is the wrong question. What do you think the odds are of McCoy finishing the game if he carried the ball more than 15 times?

Did any of you see Colt's interview after the game? First words out of his mouth are congratulations to your team. He made no excuses...said God has a plan and He's still on the rock. You can't honestly believe his going out of the game didn't make a difference. We were within 3 points with a few minutes left in the game (with an 18 year old leading the team). The score is definitely not indicative of the game. You did win because you did take advantage of turnovers, like a good team will. We just don't understand your fan base attitude...you act like you crushed us. We are proud of our team for not giving up and fighting to the end. Can't see why some of you can't see that. Has Saban or any of your team given us any kind of congrats? Mack always says that first thing...gives the other team some congrats on a good game...he's first class all the way. Congratulations on winning...great teams take advantage of opportunities.

Numerous times - both Saban and the players. I read this board, of course, and a couple of other Bama boards. I've seen absolutely nothing about having "crushed" UT. However, if you'll provide me the links, I'll go and take a look...

I'm pretty sure I remember CNS asking/saying something to CMB about Colt McCoy during the handshake after the game.. btw, tell CMB to stop acting like you would've crushed us if Colt hadn't been hurt i.e. his "it wouldn't have even been close" comment :)

Here's what would have changed: CJM wouldn't have shut down the offense at halftime. Surely you could see that we did.

You can't honestly believe that Ingram's being out the third quarter didn't make a difference. If he would've been in, we would've gotten more first downs, burned more clock and given Texas less opportunities to score. Then there would be no argument that Alabama wasn't the better team, people would be saying Colt wouldn't have made a difference. But you don't hear anyone talking about Bama's problems.

The score is definitely not indicative of the game. You did win because you did take advantage of turnovers, like a good team will.
We won because we're the better team. We scored more points, like the better team will.

Crushed, annihilated, I'm not sure what the medical term for what happened to Colt's shoulder is but it was going to happen eventually any way you slice it.
Mack always says that first thing...gives the other team some congrats on a good game...he's first class all the way.
Is this the same Mack Brown that said "It wouldn't have been close," had Colt McCoy been in? Pure class.

I just think some Bama fans are irritated that Texas feels like they were unfairly cheated out of the game. You can deny it all you want but its tangible in every single comment I've seen Texas fans make. The fact is we won the ballgame under perfectly fair and normal conditions. "The score is definately not indicative of the game." It is because Bama is the better team.

With no disrespect to Colt I think what happened is kind of funny, or at least ironic. Texas, as their left tackle said, built their team around Colt. His passing ability and his running ability. A quarterback completing 70% of his passes shouldn't have to do much more. But Colt had to be your running back, too. That should NOT have been the case. When I sit back and think of how shortsighted it was to take the heart and soul of your team, the one man that you cannot afford to do without, and put him past the line of scrimmage, exposing him to 300-pound lineman moving at velocities of 4-9 mph, bloodthirsty linebackers and run-support corners like Javy I am truly astounded. Colt is relatively skinny for a football player. He's not this incredibly built player who can bench 400 pounds and has a body meant to withstand high-velocity blows like Tebow or Trent Richardson. Mack Brown put all his eggs in one basket and then placed that basket in the most vulnerable position it could be in under legal conditions. Have fun with him.

Excuse me? Are we reading the same posts? Are you reading the ones where your fan base (and coaches) act like they would have crushed us if your fair-haired boy wonder had played the entire game?

Yes, your team hung in there, and they deserve credit for not throwing in the towel. However, sports is a series of adjustments. I don't see how anyone can extrapolate how a game would have unfolded after only 5 offensive plays. But given a choice between Coach Saban and "Coach February", I know who I, and probably 90% of the rest of the country, would put their faith in to make the winning adjustments.

I have lived with the annoying fan base element of the Whiny Orange since shortly after one of your guys scored a TD(?) in the '73 Cotton Bowl. You remember, the one where he stepped on the sideline? I never had anyone come up to me and say "Yeah, you guys really won that one. The zebras blew it." No. Not anymore than I hear any of them offer to give back this past year's Red River Shootout. You remember, the one where Bradford went out hurt?

With all the whining and excuse making I have heard the last 48 hours or so, I think that I can safely say that the UT fan base (not the team) is coming real close to being as obnoxious as the Zero U fan base is, here in North Texas.

I don't want to have to 'splain this again.
