Question: Inglourious Basterds : Did you like it?

I watched it last night, and can't figure out whether I liked it or not.

The Nazi villain (Christopher Waltz) was pretty good...and he was nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars.

The story-line was a little strange. Sort of an alternative history take on World War II. I didn't really care for that.

I think Tarantino was out of his element with this film. He's much better when doing film noir (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown), and send-ups of film genres (his Kill Bill take on the Bruce Lee movies....and his Grindhouse films with Richard Rodriguez).

I can't figure out why this film got an aggregate A- from the critics on Yahoo Movies. I'm usually in agreement with Roger Ebert, but not with this film.

I was kinda 'meh.' Most people told me it was awesome...the only thing I can figure is becuase liking Tarantino is the cool thing to do.

I'm like you - I'm really not sure if I liked it or not. I LOVED Christopher Waltz's character in the film. Especially the opening scene.

I would say watch it for his character.

I liked the movie. It was about what I would have imagined a Tarantino shootem up movie staged in fictional Nazi occupied France would have been like.

The ending in the Theater was a little over the top, but so what.

The misspelled words annoyed me from the time I heard of the movie. I watched it on someone else's DVD, and liked it ok, but not something I would really be interested in owning or watching deliberately if it came on cable.

I watch it on DVD. Enjoyed it but glad that I didn't go to a movie place and watch it.

If you like spaghetti westerns, you should like this movie. It's nothing but a spaghetti western revenge drama that just so happens to have World War II iconography instead of old west iconography.

I loved it! I went in knowing it was going to be over the top, tongue in cheek, historical fiction and that's what I got.

I freely admit to enjoying Tarantino movies and this was certainly one! :biggrin:

Also, not a Pitt fan at all. He cannot act, period. He's like Julia Roberts - just play yourself every movie. BTW, what the hell was that accent? Love QT though and saw the movie on rental, because it was a QT film. Boy, big disappointment and just plain sad.

I think he laid a big egg with this one.

I loved Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill I and II.

I never got a sense of where he was going with these characters. Outside of the Waltz guy, there was very little character development. And the whole alternative history gimmick was pretty lame as well.

I'm a fan of QT, but not one that will give him thumbs-up for just mailing it in.

Same with the Cohen Bros. They hit home runs every time in their early career. They've had maybe one decent film since O Brother. (No Country For Old Men)

I knew going in it was going to be a silly, fun, shoot-um-up and that's what I got. I enjoyed it. Didn't expect it to be historically accurate or anything. Don't know enough about Tarantino to know what to 'expect' (other than weird), so that didn't come into play for me.

I thought it was interesting, and I saw it more from a history teacher's point of view. History, recently at least, has been big on multiple perspectives. I thought it was pretty good, and I enjoyed it.

One of my professors said that Pitt's character is actually based off some WWII U.S. CO that was from his county in NE Tennessee. He did not enjoy the movie at all.

Not really what I would call a shoot'em up movie. I actually got bored about midway through. I did like most of the acting but Pitt kept me from liking all of the acting. Too many side characters...like the german actor...that's why the development was lacking. Too much to keep up with. 6 out of 10.

I thought it was great. One of the best movies I'd seen in a long time.
