I will give my honest opinion of Brent Calloway as a local to him... i've seen the kid play his entire football career at Russellville...

he is an outstanding athlete I won't take that away... but the fact of the matter is, he came to Russellville to avoid competition at Florence High School... a guy named Shawn Southward(the RB at Troy who went off in the bowl game) was getting the carries... Brent didn't want the competition, he packed his bags and went and lived with a family friend in Russellville to play at Russellville High School where he was promised a starting spot on the depth chart

and I've seen the kid play a lot of games, however, in the big games over the years: Athens, Walker, Hartselle, etc., anytime Russellville got down... Calloway went away, he was one of those dragging his shoulder every play, drawing personal fouls for late hits, etc... I used to talk about it even when he was committed to Bama, he'd get upset and cry like a baby on the football field if things weren't going right...

honestly, losing him doesn't make me upset... and his dodging competition on a depth chart is nothing new

if this is true then he sounds like a boog and belongs there

His coach is a Barner.

Even the Barn boards are commenting on how depressed he looked. Side note, Auburn writers are Tweeting that AU will not accept the commitment of Frost. Weird day.
I didnt want to say it in my earlier post but that is precisely what I was getting at.

anyone from the Shoals area that follows Russellville can atest to this... or anyone who is familiar with Calloway when he was at Florence... most don't even know he transferred to Russellville from Florence, Brent certainly never speaks of Florence... for reasons

no offense with what i'm about to say, when Russellville was playing the weaker 5A schools from Huntsville, Muscle Shoals, etc., Brent would have 300 all purpose yards, sacks out the ying-yang, etc... when Walker, Hartselle and others were on the agenda... you didn't hear #21s name called near as much, all i'll say on the matter, and i'm done with it

and Calloway had SEVERAL personal fouls in the 2 games Russellville lost this year, because of things that happened after the play...... with his team losing

Andrew Bone tweeted: "Brent Calloway tells Scout.com after the U.S. Army game he will not take an official visit to Alabama. Only trip he will consider is USC"..

Something just doesn't add up somewhere..He's not even giving Bama a visit after being committed to us since last year..I dunno..Something happened for all this to work out like it has..

There may be reasons that we did or didn't want him but to be committed to UA for over a year and then less than a month to NSD you leave and go to the rival school seems weird if you're a fan. I've heard some people say that CNS will fill his spot with someone better or quality person. There's only 25 days left in recruiting and we have been recruiting players for over 365 days for the most part. Seems like we lost a spot in this class. I think we have a good idea who's coming but at least with this if someone surprises UA, we won't have to free up a spot or drop someone's commitment.

he probably wanted to be GUARANTEED a spot on the depth chart and got told by Saban "who do you think you are?"

I bet there was a falling out over playing time, imo

just knowing how Brent is and how our coach is about earning your worth

I agree 100%..We have more recruits than scholarships that wants to come to Bama..Bama won't miss a beat..

his face says it all, he is not HAPPY with his decision, I honestly think our coaches backed off

his mother is about to cry, and it's not because she is extremely happy

the only one smirking is his barner head coach Dusty Goodwin... and I wouldn't expect to see Saban back at Russellville any time soon

That family looked so disappointed to make the pick for AU that I might actually agree with some of these theories that he pushed for something like guaranteed spot on depth chart or rb opportunities and UA wouldn't bend or break on any of that. Unfortunate but if you really think about it that speaks volumes to the class we're bringing in and the players we have on campus on. We possibly told a 5* athlete that if he wanted to test the waters with a rival then go ahead b/c we're good. I don't think it's complete over with him on the recruiting front but if so oh well

I know i'm not considered a credible person or an "insider" on this site... don't claim to be

but when in 3 years we're laughing at how he was more problems than he was worth for Auburn... you all won't remember me, but i'll still be here thinking to myself "I tried to warn them"

kids that don't want to earn their spots on the depth chart, almost never work out... and it doesn't matter how many stars they have out of high school

give me the 4 star back that put up 100 yards in AA game and WANTS to be a part of our program is not scared of competition

give me the Kareem Jacksons of the world, Auburn can have the Brent Calloways

a lot of the Bama boards are in meltdown mode over this, i'm thinking crisis adverted

in retrospect & to sum up this whole thread, IMO the football gods have smiled on the crimson tide today on this matter and the good guys will be so much better off, on the flip side the enemy will get the shoter end of the stick and all will be as it should be in the long run!!!!!

I can't remember seeing such a supposedly big-time prospect so afraid of competing and earning a spot. No big loss.

i wouldnt say that, auburn got a really solid athelete today and perception wise at least they will win the in state recruiting battle this year because of it. Our class was built mostly from out of state guys and its loaded with talent and our staff will likely replace calloway and move on from it, but i won't try and downplay a guy with talent cause he absolutely stabbed my team in the back.

I wish him the worst of luck so long as he's at the barn and move on, but im not naive.

dont buy the bama backed off crap what a joke

You must be really happy with today's news.

I don't buy the staff backed off, Calloway made it clear that he backed off because he was afraid of competing against Bama's walk-ons. You guys give him a better chance for playing time. Great pick up for y'all, but no big loss to the Tide.

Signing day is still three weeks away. If indeed Calloway signs with AU then good for him. If he was easily swayed to change his commitment by either his head coach or Rose then so be it. Guys, just a few days ago after the Under Armour Game we were all trying to figure out how all the numbers were going to work out because there are so many good prospects left on the board and so few spots. In my view this opens one up for somebody else that really wants to play at Alabama. Good Luck to Mr. Calloway and Roll Tide!

The reason why Calloway didn't commit is because there are too many guys in that small LB/large Safety mold that Bama already has on the current team, or are committing...

N Perry
Ha-Ha
Mosely
DePreist.......just to name a few.

I noticed that #21 Calloway was a non-factor at the Under Armour game.......he had one open field tackle, but the receiver easily caught the ball, as he was open, but for a short gain.........otherwise #21 was a non-factor. He looked way too small compared to the other LB's around him on the field, except Sunseri!, who I felt had a few more stronger plays. DePreist definitely is the real deal.....he will play next year, no red shirt. With Ha Ha, Mosely, Depreist, and a bunch of great db's/safety's from the last two years......Calloway could have never seen the field....at least outside of special teams.

His personailty probably didn't fit the Saban mold.....and his game might not have made up the difference in the Bama coach's eye. Look how Brent appeared when announcing his decision....it looked like his girlfriend had just dumped him, so now he was going to jump on his girlfriend's next door neighbor, for revenge.

This might not be over....but I don't think Saban goes too hard after the Spencer Region type.

Also, Ha-Ha was at the under Armour game........how come he didn't reel Calloway back in? I hear he is a HUGE cheerleader.

Maybe people wearing the crimson didn't want to reel him back in.
